The thing isn't that respectful discussion is BAD it is the fact that a good chunk of guys are acting like this is a "if you aren't with us you are against us so you are a ****ing idiot" type of situation. I have gotten an incredible amount of flack about liking the Ex, BUT I PMed SSC Alex about people's concerns with some of the best solutions to the problem a week ago. I respect that JAWS made another thread with a poll I think it is a constructive way to try and point out people's concerns. Now the guys acting like 3 year olds aren't helping a darn thing. In fact I am not sure they aren't hurting their own cause because as far as I can tell SSC Alex was willing to respond to all this initially, but she hasn't been posting in this thread, and I wouldn't blame her. Who wants to read a *****FEST all the time

a respectful discussion is never bad

that attitude you discussed is not part of a respectful discussion and has no place in it

if you like the ex then all the more power to you, but from the poll its a minority opinion from those who voted, and it would be great to keep the ex and make it removable so both parties win

if anyone is against that, you have to doubt their agenda since neither side loses ground in that event

Oh I know I am in the minority... What I am hoping for is a third head that has the painted red eyes, and another head with the EX has is. For some reason I have horrible visions of REMOVEABLE flames falling off and shattering. It maybe a totally irrational fear, but I am all like:horror

Comics crashed because people thought they could treat them like stocks. Buying low and selling high. But the comic market works on Rarity of the books and historical value(first appearances, major story elements). So people in the 90's starting buying new comics in large numbers, making them rare at first and then trying to sell them at an inflated price months later. But there were millions of these books printed So the market couldn't handle the inflated prices. Once the consumers saw there were millions of so called "rare" books floating around no one wanted them, the prices dropped and all the "collectors" who were just buying books to make money left the market.

Once they left and only the actual readers were buying comic books again the companies got stuck with hundreds of thousands of copies of books that weren't sold. The market crashed, Marvel nearly went bankrupt. Shops closed. blah blah blah, you know the rest.

Collectibles are meant to be enjoyed. If a by-product of that enjoyment is having something that may be rare/valuable then that is great but secondary.

I'm a Batman collector, I have thousands of Batman books from 1962-2008 and I wouldn't sell them even though they're worth thousands. I don't collect things for value, but because I enjoy having them and in some cases showing them. I enjoy the art and the writing in the books and I love the history of the characters. It's a pop culture mythology that rivals some of the greatest stories in human history.

Or at least, in my opinion.

You know what is scary is that the statue market looks like it could be heading in the same direction. Hope it's not true but with bigger ES, you could place the name Statue in place of Comics (but on a smaller scale of course) and the writing could be on the wall.

I don't know if it's quite there yet but let people try flipping in large numbers(I know we have flippers but it's not in droves) and then I'd say the bubble could burst.

It already has. Tons of Joker Reg PFs have already sold on ebay for well under retail 'cause they made so many. Lesson I've learned from that is why buy from SS directly when you know the price will come tumbling down on these statues with such a large ES. They're still beautiful and I want to own them, but no way am I paying retail for a Reg Batman at an ES of 9500. I'm patient and can wait, be it years... lol I'm lucky I snagged the rare PFs I own before SS changed their business model. BTW Really enjoyed what you wrote about comics Josh. Later all... :wave

Many statues have sold for less then retail on eBay, and they have had smaller ES then the Joker. It is all about supply and demand. In the short term the Ex of a statue appears to hold its value, and the Regs drop. Now ONLY time will tell if the Joker, Superman, and Batman Regs hold their value, but the Exs will ALWAYS be the most SAUGHT after. Also to remember that new collectors are coming all the time, and 2000 or 9000 compared to the population they are going out to these are bloody well rare.

Buy the Reg, buy the Ex, buy what makes you happy it really doesn't matter. However, I will say guys who eat the NRD repeatedly because the ES is to high on an Exclusive statue are just handing SSC FREE money. Totally their choice, but not what I would do.

All of what you see selling on Ebay for under retail is the regular edition of the statue and usually it's because anyone who wanted the regular got one and people are trying to unload the regular for whatever reason(financial issues, getting out of the scene blah blah) and they don't care if goes under retail as long as it moves. Also it's retailers who bought them wholesale and couldn't sell them in store (you have to have a brick and mortar store to have a Sideshow account)so they take a small hit on the mark up and sell it under retail to move the product. Sitting product does nothing for a store. You'll never see the EX going for under retail, the day you see that, that's the day you have to worry.
