Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

I think that you guys with your manips should maybe email that address they have listed. Hell, gather them up and I'll do it. Penguin, Scarecrow, and TAS Batman.

You do it John.

Okay, but first I want to see your version of Scarecrow.:lecture

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

That might look good in 2-D, but if the black doesn't follow the contour of the sculpt, it will look very odd.
Personally, I'd be fine with the way the proto was shown so I can paint it myself....but that's just selfish of me.

I'm still somewhat curious what it would look like under different lighting. With the washed out, front facing light and the monochromatic nature of his face, it almost doesn't even look like a finished sculpt. It looks totally undefined. You can't see his teeth, or anything, so, I really think they should try to, at the very least, show people what he looks like under shadow.

A Vote scares me. It makes me think that (maybe) DC isn't going to be "all-in" for the line. Hope I'm wrong.
As for Scarecrow, he's always been a tough sculpt as his burlap sack mask is obscured in shadow and in 2-D. The Sculpt looks nice, though and I think all it needs is some black paint (applied to your preference, as we'll have to do this ourselves.)
This is what I mean:

You should definitely email them with these manips Batfan. It won't do any harm to try, and it's not like the figures need big changes.

As for Scarecrow, I think McHaleyArt did a great job on the face. I'd be very happy with that style of painted on shadow.

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

Given what they did to the shadows on TNBA Scarecrow's face, I'm REALLY concerned about Phantasm's face, as it's almost all under shadows.

I mean, if they ever do a Phantasm figure, of course.

I really think they should paint the shadows on Phantasm's face, as they never change.

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

...aaand sent! Here's hoping they take note, as there's still plenty of time in between the lines.

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

^ Awesome! Let's hope it makes a difference. And thanks for sending it on our behalf Batfan :)

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

I actually got a reply to my email from Kevin at DC Collectibles. He said that there is some room for interpretation, in order to make definitive versions of the characters, as some of the appearances varied on the show, but he made it clear that they're sticking to the original character models, and that they may take another look at stuff after what was sent. I included the turnaround for Penguin and the character model for Scarecrow for comparison, so, hopefully those two are modified. He also said thank you for looking at this stuff, so, since you were the guys who did all the work, I thought that should be relayed to you in particular.

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

Yeah but with coloring the Riddler's collar totally wrong - Riddler NEVER had a collar the same color as his tie - - it is obvious that the Prototypes used for advertising are capable of falling into error. Fixing Penguin's monocle to be show accurate should be as easy as painting Riddler's collar black like it is supposed to be.

If they can give Joker the green streaks in his black hair to look just like the show's art - as opposed to giving him a full head of green hair - - why can't penguin's monocle look like the art? or TNBA scarecrow's shadowy face?

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

Well, that's why I emailed them. I forgot Riddler's collar, though, so, you may have to do that one yourself.:lol

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

Well, all of these previews are nice, but it won't be worth anything if they don't fix the quality.

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

If they want to be faithful to the character model sheets, then Batman should have longer ears, a bigger head and blue streak highlights.

Personally, I don't mind them doing artistic interpretations. They should just say "hey, these are our interpretations of the show". It's just the odd inconsistency that bugs me. Why does Batgirl have blue highlights while Batman doesn't? Scarewcrow shouldn't be painted up because those were just shadows? Joker is based on how he looks in episodes instead of the actual model turn around sheets? How do you go about what should be what as far as fidelity goes? It's tough.

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

Yeah "room for interpretation" is what happened to the Arkham City Clayface figure hahaha Clay muscles, ice on his back that looks like quartz, and a face that looks like skeletor . . . that was some mighty spacious room there lol

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

For Phantasm, I think it would work to have his hood overshadow his face, that way the only paint app they have to do is the cheek/mouth highlight. And the eyes can be painted white on black. Question is, to make him 'girl' sized or larger as he appears in costume?

It's great that they took the time to read, reply and acknowledge the points in your email. It shows that they're at least listening and somewhat willing to look at the points we made. Seems promising to me that a few tweaks could be made, to Penguin and Scarecrow at the least anyway.

I really dig the "all black" parts on Batman (ever since the Kenner figure), as those blue highlights totally depend on the light.
The blue interior, tho, makes way more sense than the blue highlights, because it was actually blue. LOL

About the figure's head: if you take a close look at the prototype, he's actually looking up (you can notice that by his chin), which is making his head and ears look "smaller".

The only thing bothering me about the Batman figure - but that's minimum - is his eyes being a bit small compared to the TV show (where they're wider). Perhaps they'll end up being different in person? I hope. If not, a quick repaint will settle that. LOL
