Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!
It wasn't just the one piece suit, I mean, atleast that was in the style of the Frank Gorshin Riddler. The bald head, black eyes and slippers is what got me the most. I also think the Joker is an abomination with those eyes and lack of lips, but I digress.
And yeah, Clayface. To me, he died in Mudslide. Having that crap with TNBA undermined that entire episode. Also, I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I thought Freeze was better in the series when his wife was actually DEAD, not frozen in some tube like a snow globe angel. I wouldn't have had a problem with Heart of Ice being the only appearance of Mr. Freeze. It said all it needed to about such a tragic character. It's like they saw the success of that great episode and instead of leaving it alone as a stand alone (like they should have), they attempted to recreate it. Just when you think it's over and they give him the proper send off, there he is, back with spider legs.
Yeah, it probably would've been best, had he died in Mudslide, but, then, too, that's one episode where I never understood Batman's line of thinking. The chemicals he stole were from Wayne Enterprises, Batman was constantly offering to help him, presumably, using Wayne resources, yet, when Clayface is on the verge of remedying his condition, Batman shuts the whole thing down. It was one episode, where I was actually rooting for the bad guy because he really is one of those tragic characters. He gets dealt a **** hand, tries to live his life after being dealt said **** hand, but, in the process, becomes indebted to ****** people, said ****** people deal him yet another **** hand, and then he has to live as a monster because of said, latter, **** hand.
As far as Freeze goes, as I said, I like the idea of what the Spider legs represent, more than I like the Spider legs, to me, it's one of those things where Freeze is sympathetic because of his goal of trying to save his wife, but, at the same time, it's that quest, I think, that keeps him human. If I remember, I thought he cured Nora, and she moved on, at his insistence, but, in doing so, the human part of him faded away more and more, and I think the spider legs were the creators' way of literalizing that.
In regards to Riddler, though, yes, absolutely no contest there; the only good thing about that character was his voice.
Probably in series 4. The next wave will probably have 3 new adventures figures and only 1 BTAS figure, and it could be anyone, the Riddler, Penguin, Harley, Clayface...and the list goes on and on. He should have been in the first series.
With any luck, though, we get both solicited relatively close together. Ideally, we'd get some prototypes at SDCC, with solicitations around the time these two start shipping.
TNBA Joker was the abomination o the bunch and 17 years later I would still as "What were they thinking?"
Since the series continued longer than what they had planned, I guess we should allow that slide (no pun intended). Clayface last appeared in the JL episode where he finally gets blown to pieces and that was his final chronological appearance.
Thankfully for all the characters that had to be stretched thin (again, no pun intended), we got truly magnificent stuff like Freeze's closure in Batman Beyond or Catwoman's in JLU.
So is Justice League and JLU. I always wondered why some fans never considered JL as a part of the series when clearly it is a direct sequel, and a great one too.
TNBA Joker never bothered me quite as much as it did some people. It was inferior to pretty much every other variation of Timm's Joker, but, I don't know, he just didn't leave much of an impact. Perhaps because of the quality of some of the episodes he was in, the design just seemed sort of secondary when you've got material like Mad Love, and Hamill delivering it.
That's an excellent point about Freeze, though. They really did give him quite the send off on Beyond, didn't they.
