This is a horrible idea . Having an origin for the joker is not necessary and having him exist outside of the batman movies is equally stupid so if he is not the villian then who is the mob so I am supposed to view the joker as the good guy now.

Are we supposed to get an origin movie for all major villiqns in the dc movie now.

Jared Leto you can kiss that joker harely quin movie good by now. I swear DC if you think you can keep rebooting everything instead of righting a sold script thr first time you are deeply mistaken

Lol st this point DC is going Sony dumb. They are now making spinoffs of Batman villains to gain an audience. WB and Sony are competeting to see who is the worst studio.

And yes that Leto joker movie is as dead as it’s ever gonna be. Bravo DC for making Snyder the head of your movie universe

I think it's fascinating. Does not have to exist in the DC universe, just an Else Worlds tale. I am hoping for more of a look at the world through his eyes, not necessarily going from A to Q as a Joker origin story. Maybe it's something else, such as just seeing how this man sees the world around him and how somebody could check out from society and become nuts enough to become The Joker. I doubt we will even see any DC characters apart from maybe Gordon. I am kinda hoping Marc Maron is playing Gordon....

I actually hope they brand them as else world stories and i love this path they are taking. Main universe with the odd else world story where you can make a quality solo movies instead of a 3 parter in a joint universe.

Yeah, I've no problem with this approach.
Of course, who knows if they'll stick to it... if it is a big hit, I can just see WB pushing to make it a trilogy...

This is the only DC film I am excited about. Not because of "ooh it's a Joker origin!" but more because it's like an Elseworlds look at an iconic character. DC has the characters that can handle solo films that are character studies and be completely separate from their other films. Casting plays a big part in my excitement as Phoenix is the perfect actor to get inside the head of The Joker and really display the tone they are going for just by casting him.

Why delve into Elseworld takes when they can’t get a normal universe up and running

That doesn't even make any sense though. Why give the Joker a name that would have everyone think of Ben Affleck? Madness. :lol

Not sure if this was mentioned, but I also read that apparently he's narrating the story. Which seems a bit silly to me. It would remind me of Dexter.

Phoenix’s character is named Arthur Fleck, a man utterly disregarded by society. However, other than that, we don't know a lot at this point. Phillips and his crew are being mum about story details, so we’ll have to wait until we’re a bit closer to release to learn more about what sets Arthur on his path to becoming the Clown Prince of Crime. (Though you're welcome to speculate all you'd like in the comments below.)

The Joker’s real name is Arthur Fleck. He is an introvert who moves back with his ailing mother Penny and develops a relationship with his neighbor, single mother Sophie Dumont. Arthur’s attempts to provide for them lead him down a path that pushes him to the edge of sanity and result in his transformation into the Joker.

Joker also narrates the story, described as a "exploration of a man disregarded by society, that is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale."

Arthur works at a hotel managed by world-weary Hoyt Vaughn. His colleagues are the opportunistic conman Randall and the friendly dwarf Gary, and he often interacts with two cops, the honest Garrity and corrupt Burke.

Arthur’s mother Penny once worked for wealthy industrialist Thomas Wayne and is obsessed with him, while Arthur regards him as “cheesy, tanned and rich-looking”. Allegedly it is implied Arthur is Thomas’ bastard son.
Robert De Niro is in final talks to play Murray Franklin, a “fear-mongering talk-show host”.

Nice clip. Without the red nose, it's basically Ledger...minus the scars. Hopefully, he just likes to wear makeup as part of his act before he becomes a villain. I'd like for him to have the chemical bleached skin like Nicholson and Leto, not a guy wearing makeup.
