Joaquin Phoenix Says “One of the Best Scenes” Was Cut From ‘Joker’

"The two revealed the film’s first cut was over two and a half hours, which means Phillips had the task of cutting about half an hour of footage. “There’s plenty of deleted scenes, yeah, but they’re not going to be on the DVD. I don’t do deleted scenes,” Phillips explained. “The movie that exists is exactly the movie we want it to be— I feel like all that adding deleted scenes do is confuse it.”

Unfortunately, for Phoenix this means what he deems “one of the best scenes” will never see the light of day. The scene in question sees him and Randall (Glenn Fleshler) in the stairwell leading up to the Ha-Ha’s offices.
Phoenix eventually understood the director’s decision, saying “That’s just what’s so cool about movies, right? You can have a great scene, it’s something that makes sense, but the movie is the collection of all of these scenes and they have to work together to tell the story, and it actually made that whole sequence so smooth.”

There's a cemetery scene too, not mentioned in the article.

I'll buy his figure if HT makes him. He'll look great next to the other figures.

I ususually don't want Hot toys to make anything cuase I put faith in them once and they only delivered iron man after iron man but this I'm just praying they make.

I think JP made a very good life altering decision going with Joker over Strange.

Sure Strange was in 2 movies that earned 5 billion (WTF 2 movies 5 billion lol) BUT Joker was in a one man show that earned 1 billion and more than likely an oscar.

One man show more prestigious than ensemble.

Even TDK needed 2 to tangle.

I don't know, Benedict Cumberwhatever has job security for the next 20 years as Strange, which keeps him relevant and he can still make artsy films to make himself feel good about dressing like Strange.

I expect Disney to start developing a Thanos movie soon. He'd be perfect for a solo film. Not R rated, but a movie about a villain.

Didn't they do it already? I thought it was called Avengers: Infinity War....

I actually hadn't seen The Exorcist until it was re-released in theaters in 2003 for the 30th anniversary with the extra scenes. So when I saw it on the big screen everything was new, including the stair walk, and I thought it was freaky as hell.

I don't think any other movie has freaked me out as much as The Exorcist did back in the day. Even its re-release was sufficiently freaky for me. Maybe it was my Catholic upbringing too.

I'm glad Joker is doing well. Hopefully, the studios get the right lessons from this movie for future projects. IMO it works not because of its realism or violence, but because of how it was a character study more than anything.
