Just a reminder of the differences between between boys and girls. I mean look around, is anyone here actually at odds with anyone else? Not that I see anymore. And there were some *heated* back and forths a couple years back between people that are still regulars here today. Because the thing with boys is they can punch each other on the playground and then be best friends the next day. But with girls if you cross them you're an enemy *for life*, lol. Hell hath no fury...

I'm sure I was mates with a lot of these guys but if this Lindsey Lohan Mean Girls behaviour is what's considered 'Alpha masculine' these days I guess I'll stick with the betas and the Soyboys

*places lunch tray down at the SSF table of the school cafeteria and takes his seat* :lol

He is generally effeminate.

Makes sense.

Finally watched it.

I wanted to love it like everyone else, but I just thought it was OK. It was very beautifully shot, but I just didn't get sucked into the world like I wanted to.

I have to commend Phillips and Phoenix for making a movie that was different from everything else out there today, but it wasn't unique enough to knock my socks off. It was essentially "Falling Down" with face paint.

And once again, it's another case where the trailers gave everything away, and basically showed ALL the best stuff. I'm also not a fan of the "unreliable narrator" trope. I hate when movies use the "it was all a dream...or was it?" cop out.

And it sure is a good thing we got to see the Waynes killed in that alley again, and Martha's pearls spilled all over the wet pavement for the 900th time. Wouldn't wanna NOT show that again.

Still, one hell of a performance by Joaquin Phoenix. And it LOOKED very cool. But I didn't love it.

The talk show looked exactly like an 80s talk show. Exactly like I remembered the curtains on Johnny Carson.

Wasn't talking about how it looked, but about De Niro specifically. Didn't get a talk-show host vibe from him.
Someone like Alec Baldwin would have worked better for me.

In a way I agree very fat mobster like vibe I got instead of talk show host but I still bought into it.

But at least the Ed McMahon guy had the exact laugh lol

Deniro is trash and has been trash for 20 years. He was even doing that thing he does where he repeats a line twice because he can't remember the script, "You're laughing! You're laughing!!", "Not everyone, and I'll tell you, not everyone is awful!!" :rolleyes2

Him getting shot in the face is the only good thing about his performance. :lol

To be fear, the dialogue in that sequence isn't great, so that didn't help, but Phoenix made it work because at this point in his career, he's Michael Jordan in his prime, and Deniro is a fat retired Charles Barkley. One just can't keep up with the other.
