Chromium covers! :rotfl

This past weekend, I was helping my son bag, board, and organize his comics. He was going through my boxes to see how I do it and also to check out some of my collection. Then the inevitable question came: "Why do you have so many doubles?"

My answer: "Because there were all these variants and foil covers and polybags and stuff. I'd have to buy 2 if I wanted to read it because reading a book would essentially destroy it's value."

He then picks up an autographed foil cover Deathmate and asks "How much is this worth?"

My response: "About 3 bucks."

*uncomfortable silence*

Me: "IT WAS THE 90s!!!"

:rotfl Ain't that the truth. I got suckered in that 90's craze, too.

Now that I think about it, that very well may be where this book is headed. Not an actual crime-fighting book, but a virtual one.

Nnnnnope.

"It’s a bit of a shock, to be sure, but we’re doing everything we can to be respectful to this character’s amazing legacy, while presenting something thrilling that a generation of comics readers will be experiencing for the first time…

Barbara Gordon leaping, fighting, and swinging over Gotham. Now, when citizens of that city look up, they are going to see BATGIRL.

Barbara was never raped.

Joker's pretty much an asexual character.
About the only thing that could give him a stiffy is the thought of torturing and killing Batman.

After he shot Barbara through the back, she was raped/molested by his goons while he took instant polaroids of it and left them all around her for Gordon to find. Read the story, newb. :monkey1

It ain't the 90s without Hologram covers with gatefold posters within the books. I still have this one. :lol

I have read the story...

The "rape" theory is bulldada.

It was never on the page (Did you even see anyone else in the Polaroids??) or even explicitly explained so how about you try and prove it, big boy? :nana:

Ah, live and learn. :lol I think I still have 3 somewhere in one of my boxes. Though, $1.99 means they've gone up since last year! :yess:

I remember being so excited to get a copy of this variant.

And of course I had to buy all the versions of this cause they were going to be worth so much in the future. :)

Apparently you're not familiar with Moore's work. :huh

I actually have to thank Lee's X-men comic for changing at least one bad habit. I spent soooooooo much time trying to track down the Magneto cover I ended up blowing up at my local CS owner about it when one of his employees accidentally sold the one he'd gotten for me from a convention. :lol That's when I realized why am I buying all these comics that have the same cover when the story inside is identical? So that ended the multiple covers phase of my collecting. :D

Why would Joker take a bunch of naked pictures of her? Because he thought that would unhinge the Commissioner? Just naked pictures? I doubt it.

And yeah, Moore liked using rape as a plot device. It's effective. He just couldn't show anything explicit, or overtly implicit.

Guess that's too much to grasp for someone unfamiliar with Moore's work and completely incapable of reading between the lines. :huh

Though that's not saying much, I remember not thinking their stories were anything special back in the day. They were grittier and more unpredictable than the big 2 at the time, though.

At that point, having been a hardcore collector for well over a decade, it was absolutely refreshing seeing stories like that. Of course, the kids and superficial collectors only bought titles for the artwork (which was only ever good at most for a 10-issue run before the big 2 moved them on to other titles to boost sales and replaced them with shoddy artists). Art was something Marvel and DC used to sell their book back then because for the most part, the writing sucked.
