yea. So much for making it easy for people. sheesh

So, basically, the JL you are watching formed in JL#1 and forward, isnt even the current team. Cant be with Hal not having a ring anymore.

Just more confusing pie. But I'll read it, and hope for the best.

Sinestro was pivotal in the War of the Green Lanterns. In removing Hal's ring the Guardians placed Sinestro in his place. It was one of those ____ you moves that the modern Guardians are known for...so Sinestro is literally the new GL of 2814 and not of his past sector.

I am not sure about Sinestro being the GL for sector 2814. We know that a ring looking for a replacement found Sinestro suitable. Jordan still had his ring on and got stripped of his ring by the Guardians later but we don't know who became the successor for that ring.

We also know that GL #1 will feature Sinestro but for how long he will remain the main character for that title, we can only speculate.

It would be funny if he were assigned to our sector, seeing as how little he thinks of humans and the many encounters and defeats he had with its hero population. Imagine Sinestro in the Justice League?:panic:

We do know.

Can Sinestro, Green Lantern of Sector 2814, free his homeworld from The Sinestro Corps? Do Guy Gardner and John Stewart have what it takes to lead the Green Lantern Corps into battle with a mysterious force that’s destroying multiple space sectors? Why is Kyle Rayner being chosen by the rings of previous bearers who were all brutally slaughtered? And what does Atrocitus have to do with a child suffering on a war-torn world? Find out when the second issues of the Green Lantern group books in DC Comics’ The New 52 are released this October

Most are thinking an arc maybe two. Especially since the only person that Johns likes more than Sinestro is Hal. Johns admitted recently that he loves events and plans for a few throughout the next year of GL so I would imagine Hal nabbing his ring back is part of that master plan.

One of the reasons that Kyle was spacebound so much is because of a realization that our sector was larger than Earth and he wanted to do his sector proud. I would look for Sinestro to care very little about the Earth itself maybe that is one of the reasons why Hal needs to return.

I thought the ring chose Sinestro and neither he nor the Guardians could remove it. :confused Unless I've already forgotten (which is possible, considering how my memory has been lately), Sinestro officially rejoining the Corps hasn't happened yet.

so. Already irritated.

Sinestro is Green Lantern now, in GL #1

But Hal is in JL

so, how do they explain it? By making a JL#1 an origin story, by going back 5 years.

So, they reboot an entire universe only to go outside of the main timestream to tell a story that is 5 years old.

And since the world isnt familiar with "super heroes" yet, are we to assume that heroes have only been around for a little over 5 years? What 60 years of DC comics has been reduced to 5-6 years?

So everyone has different orgin stories now? Everything thats happened in the past is erased and hasn't happened? That kinda sucks

Both are right. They removed Hal and the ring chose Sinestro as the next available lifeform with the power of Will but the Guardians refused to intervene since they saw Sinestro as fit due to his actions with Krona. At least that's how I remember it, although I will admit with the New 52 coming, I was less interested in what was going on and read them for closure mostly. I may be a little off on the continuity.

Exactly. I think they've done a brilliant job of making DC comics more accessible to new, young readers by making it as convoluted and confusing as possible.

It's happened before. If you're a fan of DC, you shouldn't be too surprised.

Not exactly. The first time DC did it with Crisis, it integrated (essentially) two timelines, which gave DC a long, storied history, and created the concept of "legacy" heroes - Flash being the most obvious, but also GL. Other than Bats and Supes, they created a world in which one hero would retire (or die) and another would take up his or her mantle. IMO that gave DC a distinct flavor that Marvel just couldn't duplicate (nor should it- it has its own, mutanty flavor).

But some people couldn't let go. They had to bring back Oliver Queen. And Hal Jordan. And Barry Allen. And Superman-2. And Earth-2.

And basically because you have some artists my age who can't let go of the pre-crisis universe, they have gone and ____ed it all up again, forgetting why Crisis happened in the first place.

@The Mike - many thanks
I might need to get off this ride. I ordered quite a few #1s. Yikes!

Complete and total lack of real leadership and vision. Dan Didio makes Joe Quesada and Marvel actually look competent by comparison.

Guys like Geoff Johns and Jim Lee are very talented, but they're in way over their heads now.

Yes, I know that things have to change and generations have to ascend. But right now I miss the old guard at DC. Because the new one is dropping the ball.

I think it's bogus that they assume new readers don't want to start reading at some random issue 773 or something. It's not like all of us started reading at Action #1 or anything. We all started at some random number when we first started reading comics. I'm getting about 4 or 5 titles with this restart, but if things don't go well, I have no problems dropping them.

At the end of the day, it's really just another marketing gimmick. All of these big DC events are. The problem is this one is re-writing, yet again, the status quo. But I suspect within 1-2 years most (if not all) of this "New 52" silliness will be scrapped and the old DCU will return, complete with books picking up where the previous #s left off.
