@GS - I am tired of Super Hero Movies... Same Arcs different suit. Gets old... now adventure type stuff? Hell no.. there's always a new tomb. Bring forth Uncharted movie stupid ass Sony. Had enough of Peter Parker... crying over bitchy GF. If any new Spidey was to come would love to see new take of oh I got a GF well okay I'm going to not let fear control my destiny. Ntm open my mouth who my GF is to be stolen... or maybe just say Im single and GF meet every weekend. Yeah...

She made a reference to Yoda riding Luke's back. She was definitely talking about The Empire Strikes Back, she just called it "Empire" because it's a common abbreviation, at least among geeks. Empire, Jedi, Raiders, etc.

While it'll be cool if it breaks records, I just don't see it have the legs to stay up there that long. Especially with some big movies coming out as the year goes on.

Just saw it ... thought it was good, not great or amazing. I'll give it a 7/10. Loved all the 4th wall references. My girlfriend and I were the only ones cracking up when Colossus said he would bring Deadpool in for a talk with the professor and he replied, "McAvoy or Stewart?" Surprised more people didn't get that.

I haven't looked through this thread yet but I've been seeing a lot of people elsewhere on the net saying that this is the best super hero movie ever yada yada and giving crap to people who don't agree ... pack mentality, I guess.

I think too many people were laughing too loud at the thing before it to catch the Professor X bit, which is too bad because it was one of the funnier jokes IMO.

I think I was still cracking up at Deadpool's reaction when he realized Axel had gotten away when the X-Men confronted him.

And to the people who say they are sick of superhero movies, are you not going to see batman vs superman. Cap vs Iron Man? Because if the genre is starting to hit a slump, and the numbers imply otherwise, I think those films will reinvigorate it. Look at how even Ant Man was received. Guardians? People seem to be clamoring for Guardians 2. Dr Strange is going to be a different kind of marvel film which will likely be a hit since marvel excels at their origin stories--but it's different enough to feel fresh. Black Panther is a great character being portrayed by a wonderful actor...that should be a very strong movie. Everything leading up to Thanos? This genre will be going for a while.

'Deadpool' Set for Another #1 Finish; 'Race', 'Risen' & 'The Witch' Hit Theaters

by Brad Brevet
February 18, 2016

Deadpool's monster, $132.4 million three-day opening last weekend was the earliest a movie has ever opened with over $100 million by almost a month. Previously, Alice in Wonderland's $116.1 million opening in the first weekend of March 2010 held that distinction. Prior to that, film's didn't cross the century mark in their opening weekend until the beginning of summer. It certainly is a new era as studios are redefining release patterns every month.

This weekend Deadpool doesn't face much competition in the way of new releases and will retain the number one spot handily. The weekend's three new wide releases vying for a spot below Deadpool include Sony's faith-based feature Risen, Focus' Jesse Owens biopic Race and A24's period horror The Witch.

Beginning with number one, history shows that when a film opens with over $100 million it tends to drop, on average, around 54.3% in its second weekend. Films that score an "A" CinemaScore or higher, as Deadpool did, perform a little better, dropping around 52.5% on average. Of course, there is one last factor to consider, Deadpool is the first R-rated film to gross over $100 million in its opening weekend. So, once again we are in uncharted territory.

The Matrix Reloaded, which previously held the R-rated opening weekend record, dropped 59.8% in its second weekend. During the same frame last year, Fifty Shades of Grey dropped a massive 73.9% after its record-breaking opener. Deadpool is unlikely to follow in Mr. Grey's footsteps, but the Matrix Reloaded drop is a number to consider as are a few other top R-rated openers. 300 dropped 53.6% in its second weekend, while the comedy hit Ted only dropped 40.8%, though Ted's opening weekend was less than half of what Deadpoolbrought in making for a difficult comparison.

Other numbers to consider include the 55.3% second weekend drop for Guardians of the Galaxy and 56.6% drop for Captain America: The Winter Soldier. This gives us a range of 52-60% for a likely second weekend somewhere between $53-64 million.

I wonder if DP will be the next Home Alone/Shrek 2/Furious 7, etc. In other words a massive blockbuster that has no business being among other top grossing films of all time. Or maybe the novelty will be gone in a week and that'll be that.

What makes Deadpool any less deserving of it's box office than Avatar, Iron Man 3, LOTR, Star Wars, Shrek 2, Harry Potter? Other than Titanic, all the top grossing pics are geek/nerd/kids related. Because of personal like/dislike of it?

They're upset because Force Awakens isn't making news anymore, it's old and stale. Deadpool is very much lustrous in comparison.

Well, even though I don't care about the character of Deadpool, I did enjoy his movie more than I did Force Awakens. That's not to say it was a better movie, but I liked it more. Maybe because it wasn't a disguised remake. :lol

Get off my lawn, Deadpool.

I would've laughed for hours if Deadpool ended with him driving off in a green Gran Torino.
