Political "Discussion" on the internet = F-U-T-I-L-E

So some had a problem when I deleted this thread preemptively - but see what happens? Did I not warn you? What did I say?

All these "but they're both idiots" and "McBush" comments are what happens when threads like these pop up. They have no place on this forum and only serve to alienate members from each other and piss people off.

Yeah, lord knows only political threads have a little name calling in them. All the other threads are clean and good to go.

I think Dave's point is that pretty much EVERY political thread degenerates into bomb-throwing and name-calling. And he's right.

But in all honesty, so what? You have a few people who go off the deep end and you have many who have decent conversation. By deleting all the threads all he's doing is taking away people's ability to have some decent political talk.

I'm not disagreeing with what you just said. However, at the end of the day these are Dave's boards and he has every right to run them as he sees fit.

Plus, this is the internet. If you want to participate in some political discourse that's one thing you can find just about anywhere else. Hell, throw a digital rock and you'll hit a blog or forum online with people butting their idealogical heads together.

Like it or not, the truth is politics (like religion) is one of the hot-button topics where people are almost completely incapable of engaging in rational, open-minded discussion without getting all bent. It's about personal beliefs, personal morals and emotion 95% of the time. That's why debating it is almost always a lost cause. You're better off driving your car into a brick wall.

If Dave wants to keep that off SSF entirely, all power to him.

I know it's his board and he can do as he pleases, but I don't have to agree with it.

As for "if you want political talk" I am well aware there are political forums all over the place, but this was placed in the "other" section. What else is "other" for unlesss it's "other" topics than SS collectibles?

Personally, I don't like either Democratic candidate. Both want to raise the taxes on those who make more than 200,000. That's really the only stance I know that Obama has taken. Clinton is much more clear on what she stands for. Obama has ties to a black extremist group, and has a hate monger of a preacher. I don't see how someone who wants to be President of the USA can listen to a preacher who says "Not God bless America but God D%#@ America!" He even refuses to wear an American flag on his lapel. That makes no sense to me. Pulling out of Iraq now is just a dumb move with no government set in place. I am voting McCain, and I honestly hope he wins. I can't imagine what an Obama or a Clinton presidency will produce.

I'm sorry, I don't mean to stir the pot - but these aren't very strong reasons to be against Obama and read just like what the rightist pundits want you to think about Obama.

His minister is not him. Who cares what he wears on his lapel?

I love that issues chart. It shows how smart the republicans are to put up McCain. He's probably the only Republican that actually has a chance after Bush's run. He's pretty close to Clinton and Obama on most issues.

That offends me sir. Please suspend yourself.

There are very legitimate reasons to be leary of Obama.

The first of which is that he's a politician.

KitFisto, remember... Dave lives in Southern California, where it's hard for folks to tell a Republican from a Mythological Creature from The Depths of Hades. :lol

Sorry, Dave but i think they are valid reasons. Raising taxes on what i already pay is ridiculous. Why punish those who make more? And its very important for people to pay attention to those who influence the President of the US. You don't think a preacher has no influence? Then why go and listen to him speak in the first place? THAT makes no sense to me whatsoever. You are only as good as the company you keep. And yes, I think it's important to display your love of country. I grew up with an American flag in my front yard and yes I have an American flag pin. I grew up from a family with a military background and I was raised to love god and country. My dad survived two tours in Vietnam before I came into this world. I respect McCain as a soldier, and I support the military. I am not a fan of the war but I am of the opinion that it must be finished correctly. McCain is a very moderate Rep, and yes he is very democrat on a lot of issues. He is not my personal choice but I find him more suitable than the alternatives

There's a man who attends a church where racist speech is commonplace, and how one race will always try to subvert another and this man stays there for 23 years.
If he were white he couldn't get elected as a crossing guard.
