The other law that we just passed that I don't get is the one to do with gun sellers providing the state with the name, address and other info of a buyer. To me this makes sense...the state should have a record of each weapon being sold. But the VA Senate passed a bill last year telling the gun shops that they don't have to provide that information.

"Repeal the requirement that sellers of pistols and revolvers furnish the Circuit Court with the name and address of the buyer and other information, and require existing records to be destroyed."

So not only are we not tracking who is buying guns, we are now going to back and destroy all records of gun purchases.

And another bill that passed would allow hunting WITHIN subdivisions. If I was a parent I sure as hell wouldn't want people hunting while my kids are outside waiting for the school bus.

well I have to say VA is Jacked up!! When I got My FFL I had to submit a copy of all my info and fingerprints plus last 5 years of residence to the ATF and Local Sheriff.

I was Told By the ATF upon receiving My FFL that I am to Keep records of All weapons Bought and Sold.
And to Include Name ,Address ,and DL number of the Person I had sold to with the weapons Serial Number in a Disposition Book.

Now with My FFL(Curio and Relic 03) ,I do not Have to have them fill out the 4473 form ,But I must Maintain My records For review By the ATF or Sheriff at any given time.and to Keep My records For as Long as I hold My FFL.

Now I am very Picky to whom I sell to Mainly friends and relatives, and Some of them I have refused to sell to because of such things as Domestic violence ,and Drug and alcohol Abuse.

Which they think I am a prick and don't talk to me anymore. But I don't want any weapon that comes from me to go to the wrong hands.

I am someone who goes By the Laws Passed down through the ATF .and Yes I do agree It is to easy for some people to get weapons that should not have them.

I have a spotless record and Military clearance .and was re classing to become Military Police when i was hurt during training and Had to be discharged .

I have already been offered a Job As a Corrections Officer .but the Money is just Not there .
Maybe Down the road i will Apply with the police Academy .

but I got on the Defensive As I felt I was being looked at as one of the "Nut job Gun worshipers"" .I know first hand what firearms can do .

I hope you understand I Meant No disrespect to your Views .

Did I do better On the Periods and paragraph ?LOL I don't type that well and sometimes just don't take the time to Do it right.

I know plenty of people who own guns, none of them would ever use it to harm another individual. Now, I don't own a gun. I may never own a gun, though I've considered getting a handgun if I ever live alone. Why? I'm a small guy, could easily be overpowered, hurt, or killed. If someone is crazy enough to break into my house, they're crazy enough to get shot by me. Americans have the right to own a gun legally, though many acquire their weapons illegally. Those who do so are mostly working in crime anyway. They wouldn't want their guns traced. So, the majority of the problems that arise from guns are from those who illegally obtained them. Even if we outlawed guns, criminals would still get their hands on them. The other problem with guns is the use of force by police officers. With proper training, I feel like most of the problems surrounding that would be eliminated. However, there will always be bad cops and bad people. That doesn't mean they should ruin it for everyone.

I know people are going to cite the 2nd Amendment being infringed, but IMO a person should be required to pass a class that trains them in the proper handling and firing of firearms. Just once would be fine, but I've gone to the range multiple times and witnessed someone go in there with something they just purchased and NOT know WTF they were doing.

I agree. You should first learn safety, how to clean and break down your weapon, and finally how to store your weapon properly.

Agreed! :lecture

I've got a gun. . .and no idea how to break it down or clean it properly. :monkey3

Nor have I ever shot it. Been meaning to find time to go to the shooting range. I know how to, I just haven't actually done it. I own it purely for home security purposes.

Guess I'm one of those :lol

I will be completely honest. We are cool so I know you wont take offence. Please learn everything there is to know about whatever weapon you own. IMO you shouldn't own a gun right now. It isn't a toy.

No offense taken. And I respect and understand what it does. It is in a very safe, secret place and will only be taken out in extreme situations. Like I said, I do plan on taking it to a shooting range to test it and have it cleaned when I'm done to learn some pointers.

But for my current purposes, God forbid I ever have to use the damn thing, I know how to load it and how to shoot it.

If you ever need a hand let me know. Owning a weapon is serious business. I would be happy to help you if you get stuck. Taking them apart can be alien. But it's pretty easy. Luckily small arms can't really hurt you if you dont know what you're doing. The bigger weapons have huge springs that could potentially take out an eye if you are clueless.

I appreciate that. And I have read up on it, even watching Youtube videos of guys shooting it and taking it apart to clean. I just haven't had practical experience.

Maintenance is very important for your weapons. Think the same thing as maintaining a car. Everything is fine and is hassle free until it isn't. I try to break down my rifles every 3-4 months depending on how much they are used. The handgun I have in the nightstand gets this process every month.

~~I was really referring to people that aren't sure about what they're doing when operating a firearm. Like, always treat one like it's loaded. Never point it at someone/something unless you intend on shooting it. I almost slapped someone at the range once when this guy was there with an AR15 that overheated and jammed. For a split second he started to turn around with the barrel pointed at the person on the other side of him. I grabbed him and told him to always point the barrel downrange, or directly up when there's a magazine in it. Then I had to show him how to properly eject the magazine and clear it.
