This finale was the worst finale I've seen in a long time. It wasn't only disappointing, it was unfitting and for the first time made me REALLY hate Dexter as a character. He destroys his sister and that realization isn't enough for him to accept true punishment for his crimes not just against her, but against everyone he's ever known.

His want to live on was more important than his sister's's life apparently. Dexter 's a ****

I have. For months. For years. Nothing about this is perfect. Everything is terrible. I could go into detail, but everything about this season and that episode sucked.

lol i disagree, though again the past 4 seasons are an obvious decline in comparison to how it started..for me though I did like yesterdays episode...did I want deb to die- of course not! But overall is it a good, solid ending for dexter-yes, again imo..ik some ppl wont like that he didnt end up with hannah and he ditched harrison but i remember when dexter had to FAKE all of that crap with rita just as an attempt to blend in..so imo this ties into that and lets him accept who he is and affirms that he isnt a happy family guy--hes the "monster" he thought he was...

This sort of thing kinda tells me that Scott Buck has no idea what he is doing. Maybe this is just bad transcribing, but regarding the spinoff

First you say you've "absolutely" talked about Hannah and Harrison in a spin-off then later "there have been no discussions about a spin-off". Sooooo, which is it??

:slap

The weird thing about it for me is, the plot points they hit in the ending, I have no problem with, in fact I like them, but just the manner in which they were executed was just not good. The fact that Deb's death forced Dexter to re-evaluate his life and live in exile. . . I don't mind that ending, forcing Dex to take responsibility for his actions. . . finally, is a good thing.

I think they were on the right track as far as the overall character arc for Dexter as far as taking this man, who can't feel, then giving him feelings and giving him a normal life, and how that will affect a person. I just think they had to pad out that arc too much and it lost the 'character study' elements.

IMO he didn't take the responsibility he needed to take. Yeah, he gave up his life with Hannah and his son, but after all he's done to his sister he still wanted to live on. And probably continue as a serial killer. VERY selfish IMO.

Can someone tell me when Dexter wanted anything else, other then to murder people and blend in to humanity?

LOL.

This is hard to watch.

exactly!! :slap

Exactly what?! I've ruined or killed everyone in my life that's important to me and they've suffered because of me so I'll disappear and keep on killing!

After he saw what he did to his little sis, he's supposed to protect her as her big brother after all, it needed to force him to reject his killing lifestyle, and give up or die.

I always thought he truly loved his sister throughout these 8 seasons, but while he acted disappointed in her death, he's clearly willing to move on from her death and having screwed up her life.

It made his relationship with deb so artificial to me...

the thing that pissed me off is when this moron said this:

A lot of viewers have not been pleased with this final season. Are you proud of the final run? What would you have done differently?

I've also heard that some viewers are not happy with this season, and they all have different reason for it. So much of the stuff you read is that people want the show to be like it was the first few years where Dexter would go out and kill people. If we had continued to follow that line, the show would have gotten old very fast. This is a show that's run for eight years, and in order to sustain interest you have to continue to grow and evolve. So yes, I am happy with where we ended the show. This is absolutely the ending I wanted.

What a freaking moron. I just HATE this guy.....

People didn't want to see Dexter just kill other bad guys.... People just didn't want to see Dexter with Hannah and have so many "soap opera" ridiculous, pointless scenes.

Like, Seriously this --hole is thinking people wanted Dexter to just kill people for the entire ending? wtf? where is his head at?

He doesn't even get why people hated the last season..... omg I Swear this guy pisses me off...

and then...

Did you ever consider having anyone find out about Dexter's Dark Passenger?

Sure. We talked about it. There were possibilities of having it come up, but it felt like bringing that up in the finale would have crowded too many things in there that ultimately wouldn't have a necessarily positive affect on the episode. It could have been anyone. We talked about Batista suddenly discovering something like that at the last moment, but it felt like it would take the episode off in a different direction and take the focus off of what Dexter's emotional journey was.

why is he talking about other people finding out about Dexter in the last episode? what about finding out in episode 9, episode 8? Episode 1? What about having Vogel help dexter to not get caught?

What about not giving Hannah so much useless screen time but actually do something with Quinn or Angel......

And, yeah, because Having Elway, Masuka's daughter and Jamie in the entire season was not too crowded.....too many things in there that ultimately wouldn't have a necessarily positive affect on the season... Right....
People finding about Dexter was too pointless but having Jamie fight with Quinn over and over was completely useful for the season.....

This guy really doesn't deserve to work on the stuff he does.... Really? why are people like him getting paid to ruin things? it makes me so MAD! :gah:

I didn't even care about the last episode, but reading what this waste of air was saying really makes me so mad...

The ending he wanted was Dexter the lumberjack. LOL. What a tool. I love the AV Club's review. Spot ****ing on. Oh, and i think one of the first F's on the site!

This is the best and most true paragraph.

As a rule, I think it’s ridiculous to judge someone for liking or disliking an artwork. But I have to be a hypocrite here: If, after watching “Remember The Monsters,” you still consider yourself a fan of Dexter, I’m judging you. Not quietly. Loudly. I’m in your face with a megaphone, yelling “WHAT IS YOUR DEAL? CAN’T YOU SEE HOW AWFUL THIS IS?” You may be thinking, “Why are you yelling into a megaphone? Isn’t that redundant?” But you love a show that, for the better part of eight seasons, has used voiceovers and ghost dads to call your attention to things you’re currently looking at with your eyes. So you’ll forgive me for thinking redundancy is your thing, won’t you?

I have a couple of friends that loved every season of Dexter, even 6 and 8, and they also loved the last episode....

I can't be mean or anything, but like the AV Club was saying.... I really don't get how can fans actually love this last season...

I liked season 6 because of the twist. But the rest of the season was just so-so. Season 8 was an abomination. For the finale season I expected non stop thrills. And while there were a few scenes here or there that had quality, the season was mostly one yawn after another.

Truly forgettable. Stupid Dexter...!

no, I am talking about guys that Love every single episode ever made of Dexter.
Friends that liked even Travis Marshall and the Brain Surgeon. One of them was saying how the brain surgeon was like Trinity or the Ice Truck Killer......

I don't understand how can someone say that lol :lol

Travis Marshall....LOL.

What the **** were they thinking.

I'm thinking that Showtime is selfish and they worked out the ambiguous ending so that if need be, they can reconstitute a Dexter series. Showtime is without a doubt expecting a lot of cancellations of it's channel now that Dexter is over.

That way if they can't stand the money they're losing they can bring it back.
