And McClane is now a T-800. How did Empire put it recently? When you stop believing that John McClane could die it ceases to be a Die Hard movie.

I guess you hated all of them then. :lol

I'm going to use this again:

John McClane always felt close to death in the originals.

When he jumped on that plane. That was it. **** that movie.

In the first film he was scared and really in fear for his life. Thats pretty important - you felt that he didn't know if he was going to make it out alive. He didn't take it lightly jumping off a building with just a hose wrapped around his waist nor did he find the experience funny after he happened to survive it.

As the films go on though its more and more like he knows he's the main character of an action movie and he isn't going to die when he does ever more ridiculous things. IMO Die Hard 4 utterly takes the piss with the things McClane gets into and survives with just a few scratches and bruises. It goes way OTT for me, to say nothing of annoying fake computer jargon, useless comedy villains and a far less impressive sidekick than Sam Jackson was. I expect much the same from 5 tbh.

But anyway look, I think thats the last I'll say on the matter because I think I've posted pretty much the same throughout the entire thread.

Always makes me think of The Office.

Michael: You know what, here's the thing about Die Hard 4. Die Hard one, the original, John McClane was just this normal guy. You know, he's just a normal New York City cop, who gets his feet cut, and gets beat up. But he's an everyday guy. In Die Hard 4, he is jumping a motorcycle into a helicopter. In air. You know? He's invincible. It just sort of lost what Die Hard was. It's not Terminator.
Co-Worker 2: Dude, you should review movies. [other co-workers agree]
Michael: I actually wrote a movie.
Co-Worker 3: Really?
Michael: I'm writing one, yeah.
Co-Worker 3: What's it about?
Michael: Um, sort of a spy, thriller...

I enjoyed Die Hard 4, maybe it's because I don't over analyze movies like every other person on this forum does. I just enjoy most of them for what they are, MOVIES.

It's not over analyzing. It's frustrating when filmmakers just a lack of understanding an already well established character.

Over ****-izing (yes I said that) is something like Honest Trailers. Digging into something that no one really notices, and grabbing it out to prove the film did something wrong. Which every film does.

What Die Hard 4 did wrong, was completely strip away everything that makes John McClane, John McClane.

That's why people aren't diggin on these new Die Hard movies. They aren't Die Hard. If it was any other movie, It wouldn't bother me if someone was jumping on jets and dodging flying cars....but that's not what Die Hard was ever about.

Yes it is over-analyzing. And by "people" do you mean yourself and two others on a toy forum? :lol Obviously someone liked it, It did extremely well at the box office and got great reviews.

Imbd 7/10
Rotten Tomatoes 81%
metacritic 69/100

:dunno

Your sig and avatar is Drive. That's not a mindless drivel movie. It's a film that is meant to be analyzed, and looked at. Every shot, every scene, has something go on in it. Weather it's metaphorical, or on a character level.

So why shouldn't I do the same with Die Hard? One of the greatest action films of all time? That movie has some great character moments, that you rarely ever get any more.

And by people, I mean people. Some people don't like it. Some people do. I just said people. People don't like the new Die Hards because they're retarded. Are you trying to say that dislike doesn't exist? Every movie has fans, and people who don't like it.

I don't understand why the critics enjoyed the film. It doesn't make a lot of sense, because it's on the level of an average Michael Bay movie. It's quite baffling.

At the moment i would rank them, 1, 3, 4 and then 2.

The first ones a classic, hands down, one of the best action movies of all time, and the 3rd one is a real return to form and has some great moments. The 4th one has its faults, but it also has some very slick action and effects, i enjoy it for what it is. The 2nd ones an okay action movie, doesnt hold up to well IMO.

This one im really hype for, they went more grounded (it seems) I think him and his son have some good chemistry, im eexcited to see it! I mean McClane is an action star! I want to see him in the next Avengers! LOL
