A certain acquaintance that works at Disney is going to give me the company-wide email they received about this news. Maybe there is something juicy to share...

Wait a minute... I just realized that this means that Disney ultimately owns Icon and the KICK ASS comics. Who'd ever pictured that in their portfolio? :google

Marvel doesn't own KICK-ASS, Mark Millar does, Marvel just publishes it.

Man, my two favorite things in the world, Marvel and Pixar! This may be the greatest thing ever!

Oh man, and all the crappy tie in comics we get! "Spider-Man goes to Disney World"! And fights Captain Hook!

The real ramifications for this will not be known for a while but one has to wonder why this wasn't announced and shown off at D23 their own expo that they want to show off like MacWorld....maybe more to come?

Disney themselves have kind of unofficially said that they are at least 10 years from another gate at either site. The majority of their money for theme parks is going to try and fix Disney's California Adventure. It even pulled cash from the Florida Expansion that was supposed to grow Fantasyland over the next three years. If you see anything like that it'll be a land and it will no doubtedly be in DHS. They could spread them out but since that park needs the most work, even more than Animal Kingdom in some respects, they'll focus there.

I know, but I can dream. I've wanted an entirely Marvel park since I heard about that one in the Middle East. DHS does need work, they could take out the backlot tour and the honey I shrunk the kids playground and put some Marvel stuff there.

i bought in to marvel stock during march, it was just about at its low for the year then. I am a pretty happy camper right now. Not sure if i should dump everything right now. I think i will sit tight for a few until i see what this means in the long term

Will this affect Sideshow or Bowen's deals with Marvel in any way.

Probably not. Although when those licenses expire they'll have to redo them with the Mouse but Sideshow already has a working relationship with Disney.

SO we can expect the Marvel license to cost as much or more than the Disnay license now, and have that cost passed down to the consumer?

You know what's so ironic and funny about all of this on a personal level? This morning I went to Best Buy to preorder the Snow White and the Seven Dwarves Blu-ray to get the free steelbook case. And the shirt I chose to wear for today was my Punisher shirt. Of course I knew nothing about the Disney/Marvel deal until I just got home, so that made me laugh. :lol

As awesome as Disney doing a Marvel section in one of its parks would be, and I'm sure the quality will be far superior to Universal's, the Spider-Man ride at Islands of Adventure is without a doubt my favorite ride ever, and I'm a big theme park buff. So I'll be sad to see it go, even it is like ten years down the road.

Also CHUD brings up a good point, being that Disney may not be willing to put out 2 or 3 Marvel movies a year, like Marvel Studios is looking to do, which would suck. But a Pixar Marvel movie may just make up for all of that.

i feel like disney is doing this to stay relevant with the younger generations. it will make them money and keep them viable. If they didnt own pixar alot of people 25 and younger would not really be that interested in them. Now that they have the marvel rights, disney is instantly back in the minds of the younger generations. it seems that way to me at least.

That may be true, but I think Disney is still popular with kids and tweens.

i think disney might be popular still too , but i am not sure how much of that is due to people assuming pixar is disney or at least was back in the day. i just look at people i know and noone really cares about disney. none of my friends kids, none of my little cousins. i could be wrong though, i have never been a huge disney fan.

I'm not gonna go all doom and gloom.

I think the 616 universe will remain untouched.

They already stated that existing contracts with Sony and Fox regarding the films will still be honored and I'm sure the Marvel Studios films will be just fine as well. Disney will stay true to the characters, obviously they like them or else they wouldn't be buying them.

If anything we'll end up getting more kid targeted comics and merchandise in addition to rather than in place of the existing stuff. Which, as a parent, is really cool with me.

Distribution means nothing, it just means they'll get a powerhouse to distribute like DC has with Warner Bros, it also means that when current contracts run out like with the X-Men or Blade that Disney might want to keep those in-house and not renew them....if this had occurred a couple of years ago you might have seen Spidey taken from Sony.

As for "Disneyfying" everything, Disney has been in later times getting a bit more dark in their tones to attract various other crowds than just the kids and old faithful. Search out Epic Mickey and see just how dark they are willing to get with their core characters in times very soon. Disney won't mess with the Marvel movies which have all been pretty PG-13 targeted and will be from Marvel Studios themselves. Eventually you'll probably see Walt Disney Pictures distributing Marvel Studios products which would just mean one more screen before the film itself.
