True, Disney does have some dark stuff. I've always joked that its not an early Disney movie if it doesn't have a part that scares the bejeezus out of a little kid. After all Walt originally made the movies for everyone just like any other movie, it just morphed into kids movies because they were animated. Still, dark is one thing, alcoholic womanizing may be another. Oh wait, forgot about Captain Jack... :lol

A little more to ease the minds of film fans:

Responding to a question about the future of Marvel Studios -- especially with the burgeoning technologies of 3D -- Iger said "that'll probably be determined by the talented people who are in charge of producing Marvel's theatrical films -- they did a brilliant job with Iron Man and we're confident in their abilities for Iron Man 2." Another person asked about possible cross pollination between Marvel and Pixar: "We actually have had some conversations internally, and [Pixar's] John Lasseter met with some of the key Marvel creative executives fairly recently and the group got very excited pretty fast," Iger said. "We had to say, 'slow down guys, we haven't done this deal yet.'" Still, Iger said, "you can put a lot of creative, enthusiastic people in a room that can appreciate the value of great characters and interesting worlds, a lot can happen... sparks can fly, is the expression that comes to mind."

After Stagg discussed that Disney's leverage with powerhouses such as Wal-Mart could also help promote the brand, Iger responded to another question regarding Marvel and its film slate, and whether or not they would remain an autonomous entity in that regard. "No one knows the Marvel characters and stories better than Marvel," Iger said. "We continue to be impressed... not just from a creative perspective, but as a business perspective. I think there's an expression, if it ain't broke, and that's our feeling here."

Wow...
Totally unexpected... I wonder what Universal do about this...?
And let's hope they treat the Marvel characters with respect...
unlike the Muppets...

Here is more on the Disney/Marvel deal where it concerns the Universal theme parks. Apparently, Universal has the rights to Spiderman and the Hulk rides FOREVER. Here is some of the article at the Orlando Sentinel that deals with the theme park component of the deal. Note that the deal is only good EAST OF THE MISSISSIPPI so that means Marvel may come to Disneyland big time but may only come to Disney World in a limited fashion that does not include the major characters. Here are the bits from the article:

<< theme-park rival Universal Orlando will likely retain the park rights to its four Marvel superstars, including Spider-Man and the Incredible Hulk.

Universal's contracts apparently gives it exclusive U.S. rights east of the Mississippi River for theme-park attractions built around certain of those characters, notably Spider-Man, the Incredible Hulk, X-Men and Dr. Doom.

"Marvel Super Hero Island at Universal's Islands of Adventure and the Marvel characters are a beloved and important part of the Universal Orlando experience. They will remain so," said Tom Schroder, a Universal spokesman. "Our guests are going to get to meet Spider-Man and all our other Marvel characters. We believe our agreement with Marvel stands and that the Disney/Marvel deal will have no impact on our guest experience."

Marvel also has various deals with the two-park Universal Orlando. The agreements governing two of Universal's hugely popular rides, The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man and The Incredible Hulk roller coaster, appear to be virtually perpetual deals. According to Universal's filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Universal Orlando retains American rights east of the Mississippi River for as long as its attractions are in operation.

Universal and Marvel also have various deals for everything from merchandise sales to the theming of many other portions of the Orlando resort's Islands of Adventure theme park. >>

Interesting....although that means Universal will have to pay Disney for usage of those characteres despite contracts because they are the owners. Not sure if Uni wants to be paying the Mouse. They may just theme it out in slow sections....who knows.

I was thinking of the Muppets analogy, and I'm not sure how anything Disney has done so far is worse than the crap cranked out Muppet-wise in the intervening years since Henson's death.

At least now they are considering getting fresh, creative talent behind a new movie (or movies). Not that I think Disney should necessarily get involved in the creative side of Marvel comics themselves, but I don't think a movement away from the ^^^^ Marvel has come up with in the last few years would be a bad thing, either. You think Joe Q has much respect for the Marvel characters (or fans, for that matter)?

How could Marvel be dumb enough to sign a contract FOREVER for the rights to Spider-man and Hulk to Universal? The reasons you make contracts is so you can raise or lower the price at certain times depending on the profitablity of a product.

You guys are all missing the great crossover potential here!

I can't wait for Xavier Institute Musical! Emo loner Logan (Zac Efron) battles rival jock Cyclops in song over the love of Science Club captain, Jean (Vanessa Hudgens).

Disney Will Reexamine Marvel Video Game Deals As They Expire:

"On the video game front, (Marvel) have some smart licensing agreements with some of the best video game manufacturers in the business," said Lowell Singer, Disney's senior vice president of investor relations. "While we have been steadily moving in the direction of video game integration, we don't rule out the blend of licensing and self-produced and distributed video games.

"As these licensing deals expire we have the luxury of considering what's best for the company and the products."

Earlier today, Disney announced that they were buying Marvel for $4 billion in cash and stock. The deal would give Disney ownership of Marvel's 5,000 characters. Currently both Activision and Sega publish games based on Marvel properties.

Under current deals with Marvel, Activision, Sega, Gazillion and THQ all have different licensing deals to make video games based on the comic company's characters.

Activision's deal with Marvel, which includes the Marvel Ultimate Alliance and Wolverine games, expires in 2017. Gazillion Entertainment's deal with Marvel, which includes several massively multiplayer online games, expires in 2019. Sega's deal with Marvel, which includes games based on Marvel movies, is described multi-year. The same is true of THQ's deal with Marvel, which includes video games based on Marvel's Super Hero Squad.

While video games are certainly an important part of Disney's acquisition of Marvel, there are plenty of other opportunities for both companies, including comics, toys and movies.

Speaking more generally Tom Staggs, Disney's senior executive vice president and chief financial officer, noted that Disney is well aware of Marvel's great potential and that Disney is looking into future potential characters that can be turned into other things, including movies and video games.

"As the current agreements in place sunset we will look to exploit the library of characters more broadly," Staggs said. "This is a big library of properties and we think there is real opportunity. We plan to evaluate where those opportunities are greatest and how we can leverage those across both Marvel and Disney.""

Can't wait until the Marvel section gets merged with the Disney section! :lol:D

Yes that is a joke...I don't think that will happen...or will it??

Does this mean regular Marvel artists and writers may end up doing Hannah Montana comics and the like? (Not exclusively, of course)
