Meh I think it should be good for Marvel. As long as the comic books stay the same and don't get interrupted it should be fine. Marvel needs help with its movie studios.

Disney has said they will take the same stance with Marvel as they did with ESPN allowing them to operate semi-independently.

If this means PIXAR will be doing Spider-Man 4, I'm fine ;P

PIXAR doing digital animated 3D marvel movies would be awesome.

As Marvel shareholder, I'm all in favor of this - stock soared 10% today!

And Pixar/Marvel movies should be interesting - apparently John Lasseter was excited about the idea.

I don't think it will hurt Marvel creatively at all. But seeing Snow White, Spider-man and Kermit all hanging out at the parks together will be a bit weird.

Ever since the Incredibles, I have wanted to see this. Screw live action, a well-done CGI comic movie could blow the doors off of anything we've seen yet.

Live action leave it to marvel studios but marvel studios/pixar CGI marvel movies would rock on there own :rock

I would totally geek out if Pixar made a Marvel movie (well, moreso than I currently do). Heck, the Incredibles (which I f’ing love) was an unabashed homage to Marvel.

I'm not worried about Disney watering down any future Marvel movies. Remember Disney also owns Touchstone Pictures and Touchstone has released a number of movies that wouldn’t be considered “family-friendly”. As long as the family friendly stuff comes out under the Disney Studios’ banner, I think they’ll leave Marvel Studios to their own devices.

It was Watchmen as channeled through The Fantastic Four.

I don't think this will really change anything for Marvel beyond more cartoons and toys. The publishing division is so absurdly negligible financially it will rest well below Disney's interest.

lets not forget that Disney ALSO owned these guys at the height of their popularity

I really doubt they will change HOW marvel does buisness, Though i would expect them to add Marvel things to the parks, such as Like was mentioned earlier with Tony Stark, or Reed at epcot.

Or how about a Guy done up as wolverine wandering about Pleasure island :lol

Disney also owns Miramax....people often forget that. The question remains that DC Comic has been beaten to the punch in terms of their film licenses, other than Batman they really don't have a showing and the popular consciousness definitely is heavy Marvel as it was heavy DC in the late 80s, early 90s but with this announcement and the firm knowledge that Iger plans to eventually institute them into the theme parks DC is really trailing in terms of Pop Culture awareness.....

Disney Chief Executive Bob Iger appeared on CNBC earlier today and addressed the theme park question and -- so far as I've seen -- it's the only comment from him that deals directly with the possibility of Marvel characters at Disney theme parks. He didn't name the Universal agreement, but alluded to it by saying that the characters wouldn't be used in all Disney parks because of existing agreements that must be honored. It would seem he's talking about Orlando here:

"Marvel characters have already proven to be strong in terms of theme park attraction and we believe there are a lot of opportunities around the world, not in every one of our parks because there are some existing agreements that we obviously have to honor, but in a number of places for us to use the Marvel characters to basically help us grow our theme park business and better entertain people," Iger said.

So don't expect Marvel Super Hero Island to go anywhere, anytime soon. The contracts state for all theme parks east of the Mississippi so the small area in LA might be pulled but in Orlando, the Disney Park won't have a Super Hero presense at least for some time...

Just curious, where is this Marvel Super Hero Island? Going to Disney World with the kids in December and I may have to make a stop there.

My guess is Disney being Disney they will put some pressure somewhere and signs some big checks and 10 years from now Disney World will start to have a Marvel presence. This is the company that stole the Lion King from some poor Japanese guy, they'll find a way to put Spider-Man in Hollywood studios.

Marvel super Hero Island is on of 5 mini-theme parks that make up Universal's second theme park in Orlando, Islands of Adventure. Its right near downtown Orland and a five minute walk from the Universal Studios park (they have the same parking structure). Its not as nice was WDW, but being Marvel based is totally awesome. The Spider-Man ride is worth the price of admission itself.

no. HT already worked on Pirates of Car. stuff so I don't see any difference now. ...maybe price increase *dunno*

Could this somehow interfere with the Hot Toys Marvel licence?

That deal was already inked but when it comes to renewing it I'm sure it'll be a price hike of some sort, same with Sideshow. What will be funny is seeing something like the SSC Iron Man 1:1 at the Emporium on Main Street in a short time.....

Thanks, bud, I'll have to check that out.

Here is the email sent to the Disney Cast Members from Bob Iger:

Dear Fellow Cast Members:

I’m pleased to tell you we’ve agreed to acquire Marvel Entertainment and its treasure trove of over 5000 characters in a transaction we hope to complete by the end of the year.

I’m incredibly excited by the acquisition. Not only will we combine the great characters and storylines of Marvel with those of Disney, but we will also bring together two groups of dedicated and very talented people.

Disney’s success has been built on the great storytelling skills, the technical artistry and the creative vision of its Cast Members and employees. At Marvel, Ike Perlmutter and his team have created real value by combining similar creative skills with a strong strategy and a disciplined and smart way of doing business. They’ve done a great job in extending and increasing the popularity of such Marvel characters as Iron Man, X-Men and Spider Man.

Like our own characters and stories, Marvel’s break through gender, age, cultural and geographical boundaries and have broad appeal on a variety of media platforms. These attributes make the Marvel brand, characters and stories particularly valuable in a world of increasing consumer choice.

Marvel’s business meshes perfectly with ours and what we’ve all been doing to maximize the value of Disney’s creative properties across our businesses, media platforms and geographical markets.

Our acquisition of Pixar three years ago exemplified our focus on creating high-quality, technologically innovative entertainment that appeals to audiences all over the world. The acquisition of Marvel offers us a similar opportunity to advance that strategy, to build a business that’s stronger than the sum of its parts and to drive Disney’s long-term growth.

We look forward to welcoming the Marvel team to the Disney family and to the exciting potential this combination offers.

For more details on the transaction, please read the press release which can be found by clicking here.

Best wishes,

Bob

I'm not too concerned about this announcement. Like someone said earlier in this thread, I think Disney just wanted to bank off of Marvel's success and get more money, as if they didnt have enough already. :lol

I don't think all the Superhero movies will get changed to make them more suitable for kids or anything. I think Disney realizes that's why they are so popular in the first place, cause they are geared towards an older audience, like they should be in my opinion.
