Do you have a Mac or a PC?

I would also like to point out that I can't even hear my computer is on. When I turn on my xbox about 5 feet away it then sounds like I am running a PC. Seriously though I can't hear this thing operate at all.

I like building high power 3D multimedia machines and gaming rigs so I side with PC. I think there's more freedom in choosing hardware with pc. Just a couple weeks ago I picked up a core i7 and a new graphics card.

I would like a Mac laptop though, to carry around on trips and daily errands.

i have a pc but 'em tempted to buy a mac, question for mac owners. is mac better to do graphic designs (using photoshop) on?

Currently Photoshop is only available in 64-bit on Windows, so that's one reason to use a Windows-PC

As far as video editing--most people use Macs because Final Cut Pro is only available on Mac (Apple owns it)

However, there's a lot more programs that are only available on Windows, like my main program, 3ds Max.

Also, for those of you saying that Mac is a better machine--Macs use the exact same hardware as Windows PC's. It wasn't always that way, but a few years ago they started using Intel processors and so the Mac OS runs on the same hardware as Windows. In fact, you can install the Mac OS on a regular Windows PC, it's just that in the user agreement that they make it illegal to install it on anything but a Mac, making you pay more than twice the value of the hardware.

Buying a mac only means you get to use their OS and you have a shiny case (except for the Mac Pro desktop, which is horribly ugly).

And Badmoon, as far as PC's being loud--my PC has 8 fans inside it and it's still quieter than my Xbox, actually it's quieter than my windows laptop too.

.

My primary PC uses an Antec 900. It has 6 fans installed. They are mostly quiet but...my video card(s) fan is extremely loud even at 50%. And now that summer is rolling around I'll probably have to increase the spin. :banghead :D

I have a PC and will switch to MAC hopefully by the end of the year...

We are putting in a backyard right now so when that is finished the MAC is next on the list. I HATE MY PC (Dell)

LOL :lol @ apple....

If only quicktime wasnt needed, I wouldnt install anything Apple in my computer.

Thanks for the tips - I'll try it out tomorrow. :)

Whoever said the font size thing cannot be changed is misinformed or lying. I don't have one of the newer MacBooks in front of me right now (but I can check on this tomorrow morning for sure), so what you actually have to do might differ slightly from what I'm telling you.

Open up system preferences (little silver gear thingy in the dock, or from the Apple menu > System preferences.

Select trackpad

In the trackpad preferences there will be button or checkbox or something that mentions "gestures." Your princess is in that castle.

As for the wireless thing, I can't help without having the machine in front of me. I've never experienced that before.
:peace

I love MAC's OS and handling of graphics/art software, I'll never switch back. One thing I dislike about them is their monitors, I think they're a ripoff. I haven't seen the latest Cinema displays, but the first generation of them that came out with the G5, which I'm on now, have a piss poor design, metal casing, no venting system for the heat. I'm really jaded to Apple monitors because of this, between issues I have with it and as best I can tell, they're way overpriced when you can find comparable out there for almost 1/10 the cost, it's just not worth it, and I don't care if the monitor doesn't match. Love the systems and the software (I live with Aperture, phenominal photo software), dislike the monitors.

My first Mac experience dates from the late 80-ties. Been hocked ever since and own three Macs (yes, I keep my old, outdated CPU's for they have served me well).
I handle a PC only if I have to.

As far as graphic design (print and web), it really doesn't matter whether you are using OSX or Windows. You're going to be using programs from the Adobe Creative Suite, and those programs are available on both platforms.

A lot of people say macs are good for graphic design, but they never cite any reasons. ...

Might be true for nowadays, but back in the days, if you wanted to be part of the graphic design and animation world, you had to have a Mac. Virtually everyone back then was using the Mac platform for those kind of things. The only exceptions I remember are the (unaffordable) Silicone Graphics machines, or, custom build CPU's. Where as (IBM) PC's where always the number one choice for main stream users, the Mac OS was used by people that where active in the creative field. Times change, aspirations change, computers change. I guess the gap between PC's and Mac's is closing, in favor of the users. And that's the way it should be. The person operating the machine should always more important than the machine itself.

Does anyone know how I can reload itunes that I already paid for into itunes? I can't figure that out.

Yep. If you try to play a purchased song that has DRM, it will ask for your iTunes user name and account info. Once you do that, it is automagically applied to the rest of your library. If you have two iTunes accounts (as I do, thanks to the whole iTools debacle, you'll have to do it twice).

It would be best to strip the drm from those songs completely though... :monkey3

*cough* easytunes *cough*

Maybe I am not smart enough to ask the right question. I will try again. My old computer is dead. My current Ipod is dead. I need a USB cable thing. So I picked up my new mac and none of my songs are listed in my playlist. I can access my account and it shows me what I have purchased over the years. But I can't figure out how to put them back in my play list. It is only giving me the option to buy them. :dunno

I'm sorry, I misunderstood your question. If you don't have a backup of your music, we'll have to either get it off the old HD or off of your iPod. Since your iPod is dead (how dead is it? doesn't start?) we'll have to get it off your old HD. Unfortunately, Apple does not allow you to re-download (though some have had success with begging)

Do you know how your PC hard drive interfaced with your computer? IDE or SATA? You'll need a device like this: https://www.techdigest.tv/2008/05/the_disk_reader.html

I have a similar one and it has saved me many a time. Another option is to plug your old HD into a friend's PC or mac.

That will allow you to get at your music and transfer it to your mac via firewire, network, disc burning, whatever suits your fancy.
