Do you have a Mac or a PC?

So your songs are on your old PC? The songs don't stay with your iTunes account wherever you go. The file is downloaded to the music folder on the computer you originally bought it. It does not transfer automatically when you load up iTunes on another computer. It will recognize what you have purchased but the song file will not be on the new computer. You have to get the file either from the old computer via a portable hard drive or flash drive or get them from your iPod.

iTunes may let you re-download them if you ask them and explain the situation. Don't be surprised if they don't though.

I'm sorry, I misunderstood your question. If you don't have a backup of your music, we'll have to either get it off the old HD or off of your iPod. Since your iPod is dead (how dead is it? doesn't start?) we'll have to get it off your old HD. Unfortunately, Apple does not allow you to re-download (though some have had success with begging)

Do you know how your PC hard drive interfaced with your computer? IDE or SATA? You'll need a device like this: https://www.techdigest.tv/2008/05/the_disk_reader.html

I have a similar one and it has saved me many a time. Another option is to plug your old HD into a friend's PC or mac.

That will allow you to get at your music and transfer it to your mac via firewire, network, disc burning, whatever suits your fancy.

Sounds like the best and most simple way will be to buy the cable I need for my ipod. So how do I transfer that playlist into itunes on my computer without syncing my ipod and removing them all?

Also, Thanks very much for all of your help! :duff

thanks guys for the 411. :duff might have to look into getting a mac laptop.

If you can (and want an awesome experience) go to an Apple store. One of the coolest stores I have ever been in and their service is second to none. They were so cool and once they heard I never owned a Mac became even more excited. They showed me all of their products, asked what I did for a living and so on. Based on what I told them they recommended the best fit for me. They didn't even try to upsell me on something I didn't need. It turns out I bought exactly what I came in to buy. However, I did a lot of research. They of course tried to sell me optional warranties but I politely declined. I might actually buy their Apple care when I have some more money. It basically covers your computer from anything that can go wrong. I mean anything. I actually drove about an hour when I could have just gone to Best Buy to buy one. I must admit though my company gets a slight Apple discount so that played a part too. I am glad I went down there though.

Yeah my girlfriend's sisters boyfriend had his iMac over at their house one day and it was the coolest thing I had ever seen. The programs moved so fluidly and fast. Nothing locked up and nothing got errors. Don't have to worry about viruses or any of that stuff. I bought an iMac the next week. Runs games great, runs programs great, nothing slows down, nothing locks up and nothing does what it shouldn't do. I installed Windows XP on it to play Windows games and that is all I use Windows for now. Even Windows runs better on a Mac than it does on a PC.

Macs rock. I've never had any trouble from this Mac and always had troubles with every PC I've had. PCs suck compared to Macs.

Wow, deja vu.

I love my first Mac.. G3 iMac.

Had a G3 iMac.

Now have a Dual G5 PowerMac and an intel-based Macbook Pro.

I've had my iMac since 2007 and my macbook since December.

PC and Windows is dead.

Macs need to have some gaming. That is changing though. Nvidia is releasing a mac compatible GeForce GTX 285 card. This will destroy any of the other mac videocard option for gaming. As long as Starcraft II and Diablo III mac versions run well, I'd be happy.

Word. I'll happily switch over to Mac when they get better game support. Publishers just seem to overlook the Mac OS platform when releasing games.
