Better writing would certainly help because the attempts at 3-parters we've had so far sucked balls because RTD couldn't deliver a decent 3rd part after a promising buildup.

I often wonder whether the reason why the modern show is so driven by the effects is some kind of compensation for the years when the production teams had to make do with Action Man tanks and wobbly TARDIS consoles.

I'm not saying they should ditch all the CGI and stuff, but I think a better balance between FX driven scenes and dialogue driven ones could help the overall feel even if the current format wasn't changed.

Well, I have enjoyed all three episodes so far, but nothing has really grabbed me as being FANTASTIC, Matt Smith has been awesome and Karen Gillan has been awesome to look at; hopefully next week's episode will change my mind.

Somebody mentioned throwing out of bread was a great scene, so I'm going to create a new gif for it and make it my avatar....don't remember who it was, but thanks for reminding me of that

VotD i just caught on iPlayer, it was good episode i thought considering my dislike of daleks. I thought they might be a bit more victorious than surviving as in blowing the hell out of something other than there own kind but thats minor.
River Song's retun next week i have been looking forward too because of the 'history' she claims to have had with the doctor, although i dont want another Rose love companion.
No stand out epidsodes so far but with the new team in place its going to take time for them to find there niche.

I enjoyed the episode (It was good, but not great), but it did come across as shameless marketing ploy for people to go out and collect all the multi-coloured Daleks. (Although they were FAT, and looked like Dalek Teletubbies)
Matt Smith is the best Doctor since Tom Baker, and he needs better scripts.
Sometimes the background music is used inappropriately and distracts from what's going on.
I think what we need is for the writers to slow down the pace a little, instead of constant shouting and running around.

I agree the pace is a little hectic, i mean they went from blue prints of space capable spitfighters to full blown working crafts in the following scene! i enjoy throw backs to previous incarnations now and then, i feel like the only person in this thread who is pro-tennant lol Matt Smith needs at least a 2 parter to have a platform to develop with out rushing through an episode at 100mph!

This week's episode is the first of a 2-part story and there's another set for ( I think ) episodes 7 & 8 so we'll see if the fast forward button can be left off for at least some of it.

I really need to get used to "VOTD" no longer meaning "Voyage of the Damned"

Loved the episode. I'm a little annoyed they're ret-conning the Daleks on Earth, but whatever. I was a little confused by The Doctor leaving the android dude on Earth though. I mean, he can blow up the whole planet, right? WTH?

Possible love interest, but he meets her wayy out of order. She cant be more because of what happens in Forest of the Dead.

I'm confused by this. What do you mean she can't be more because of hat happens in FotD?

Sure, she's in the computer program thing now, but like you said, it's all out of order, so it's very likely that she is more than a "possible" love interest. Or do you mean more like she is a Time Lord or something like that?

This is interesting news (love or hate RTD) but it looks like he is writing a two part episode for Sarah Jane Adventures which will feature guest appearances from Katy Manning (Jo Grant - one of my all-time favorite companions) and Matt Smith.

i can see this as being the first time they meet not like the previous series
so its more exciting and new rather than old married couple

Hear! Hear!, the show has been blighted by romantic BS since it returned and more of it would put me off watching just when I've started to enjoy it again.

I'm strongly considering giving the next fortnight a miss.

I seriously doubt there will be any "romantic BS". There wasn't any in Silence at the Library/Forest of the Dead. It was all played for laughs.

But i got fed up with seemingly all his companions there after having a thing for him, i guess the only major plus about Donna was she didnt like him in any romantic way.
I'd like to see him travel with a guy companion (not a omi-sexual like jack) just an equal, its something new without him falling in love again.

Steven Moffat has already been quoted as saying he prefers writing for 2 companions and based on bits of info I've read it would seem a good possibilty that Amy's fiance Rory will be dragged along for the ride at some point.

Rose was OK with 9, but after that...............YUCK!
Martha looked OK but didn't really have much about her character.
Donna ............MY EYES!!, MY EARS!!

Captain Jack despite being a Moffat creation needs to be another relic of the RTD era that should stay gone but another male companion would be intresting, Jamie & Harry were decent and even Adric was OK for a bit.

I'd also like an alien companion as that'd really be something different ( avoids obvious joke about Donna ).
