And that's more like how I wish the theme sounded, electronic and funky not all big and bombastic where you lose the basics.

my only prob with the current theme is they seem to only focus on the rhythmic part and forgot about the melodic part that follows.

TAAAAAP!!!!!:rock:rock:rock

Had the show still got the same budget as in the 80's a tiny replica would be all we saw of Stonehenge :)

Re the Doctor Who theme I think the major problem is that the "diddly dum, diddly dum" part is drowned out by all the stuff that's been added over the top.

Murray Gold needs to go.

If the Pandorica IS at stonehenge, then I'm getting a serious vibe from "The Stones of Blood".
Hyperspace prison-ship anyone?? (I'm probably WAY off course)

Or the Genesis Ark.

As long as all the nasties don't get sucked back into it by the Doctor reversing the polarity of the on/off switch in the last 5 minutes with the magic wa.....sonic screwdriver it MIGHT be a decent finale.

Along with the abandoning of overall story arcs I'd like to see less emphasis placed on the last couple of episodes of a series as it seems to me that all it really does is make the other ones seem less important as we know the Doctor won't be in any real danger until episodes 12 & 13 when the "Big Bad" gets revealed.

I agree the Sonic Screwdriver does do everything but wood, i'd like to see a bit more of the inventive side of the Doctor as he almost A-team style builds gadgets from scrap i mean after 900+ years and endless galaxies im sure he learned how to invent some stuff.
Although i actually do enjoy story arcs especially when they are done in such a style that its hardly noticable untill it comes to fruition i think the best ones RTD did were the 'Vote Saxon' and the 'Bad wolf' references which never became part of the focus untill necessary.

:exactly:

The lack of gadget building in Nu-Who is apalling and from an economic standpoint puzzling as such props would be relatively cheap to make.

I'd love to see them take a break from the sonic screwdriver, but it won't happen. It has now become the Doctor's signature "weapon." At least it's not as bad so far as it was in the Tennant era though. He was Harry Potter with that thing.

Yea Eccleston didn't use it as a one-way-out-of-everything type of device. I still find it odd that Smith made his own, when according to Eccleston he destroyed the factory and planted banana trees...

....I like bananas, bananas are good

It's been done for merchandising purposes as you obviously can't market replicas of his other main weapon ( his intellect. )

Harry Potter was one of several franchises RTD wanted his Who to contain elements of, hence the numerous references to it throughout his run including that fingernails on chalkboard moment in "The Shakespeare Code".

Thankfully the show is now being run by someone who wants Doctor Who to BE Doctor Who and such nonsense will hopefully cease.

The magic screwdriver isn't limited to just Tennant. Have you seen Pertwee explode some marshland in "Carnival of Monsters"? :lol (great story, btw, if you haven't seen it)

I will admit though that the screwdriver does seem to be much more of crutch in modern Who, but I think it's always been kind of "magic".

Yeah, they did occasionally get carried away with it in the old days too. I recall him doing something similar in the Sea Devils. For the most part though, it was just a handy gadget you'd really only see from time to time. In the new series it makes him seem very dependant on a single piece of tech.

I don't think the use of the screwdriver on the mine field in "The Sea Devils" was too "out there" as the high frequency it emits was meant to duplicate a remote signal used to detonate the mines but the marsh gas thing in "Carnival of Monsters" was definitely pushing it a bit.

I was more suprised the first time I saw "The War Games" as the screwdriver was actually used to unscrew something :lol

Karen Gillan was on "The One Show" tonight and we got a small clip of tomorrows episode that was..............intresting.

Oh, was he setting off mines? It's been a a while, and I just remembered 'splosions.

Yeah, it's funny to compare Pat slowly unscrewing the handle of a gun to Tennant's magic wand. That's some upgrade. :lol

Yep,the Doctor and Jo were being pursued through a minefield by a Sea Devil and he used the screwdriver to set a couple off, which slowed the Sea Devil down quite a bit :)

I wonder if "The War Games" was the last time the screwdriver was used for such a purpose?
