Next week will be the first story of 11's era that I miss but after this week I'm a bit more confident that the last 2 episodes won't suck so I'll maybe watch 'em after all.

Me too since I'll be on a plane to the Philippines. How will I survive? :lol

Take some BF audios to listen to on the plane?

My reasons for missing next week's story can be summed up thus,

I find the guest "star" James Corden almost as annoying as Tennant.

It was a nice suprise to see Bill Nighy in this week's story, if the show ever has an older guy in the lead role again I reckon he'd be a great Doctor.

I am actually taking McGann's final season with Charlie with me as well as finishing up Hartnell's third season.

Ugh, pretty sure the BBC found a way to block proxies. I'm trying to use several different ones to watch Who but none are having the media player show up. However if I try an access it without using a proxy I can see the media player but I can't watch.

a nice episode, when the fun doctor element was taken out i found the Van Gogh character very releatable. Bill Nighy was a genius casting i think he is a brilliant actor, i loved the ending and the story it was very well written but i do think the monster was very secondary to the whole story just shoved in to give the doctor reason to be there. I dont think Moffet is as good at writting an overall story arc as RTD was, in RTDs overarcs it was very suttle untill the end like the saxon references were, they never were part of the story untill the big reveal and just served to foreshadow the bigger story, Moffets arc seems to be part of the story and is made obvious a fair amount of times but not in every episode so instead of just watching the show i look forward to finding out more about the crack in time which like this last episode wasnt mentioned which was a downer after last weeks revalation. I just think the crack should of been shown in various places but never elabourated on untill it was time and then became the focus. Also one last thing i dont buy into Amy feeling sad but she doesnt know why, If rory was wiped from time entirely and never existed then how can she have any feelings at all? he didnt ever exist! i feel i shall be eating my hat come the finale because i have a feeling i was wrong about rorys return.

Maybe a tad off topic at the end but, i am downloading the Genesis of the Daleks two disc DVD and i am curious if any of you guys know a good free and easy to use program for burning dvds with out leaving a watermark.

I would have bought the legit copy locally but, there is only one store that has it left in stock and its a bit out of my way and not to mention would cost $70 for this, which i think is a rip.

This weeks episode worked so well because it largely ignored the overall arc ( there WAS a subtle nod to it when Vincent was painting ) and was almost like a stand alone story.

I think big story arcs and finales are overrated and I don't get why so much importance has been placed in them since the show came back.

With the exception of regenerations most Classic series ended with a regular story and there was rarely any kind of big arc and IMO it helped the overall quality of a series because each writer didn't get bogged down in trying to link it all together.

I dont think RTD in the beginning did get get bogged down they were so subtle through the series untill it was necassary to reveal the plan, with so much emphasis placed its too much to reveal bits of the tardis blown up then the next week make no mention of it at all. It is true there doesnt need to be a series arc, so far episode stand on their own really well.

Loved the latest episode with Van Gogh. I wasn't sure what to make of it at first, but once they started exploring Van Gogh's depression it was brilliant.

The most interesting thing to me was Van Gogh's depression contrasting to The Doctor's. Rory's death is clearly not sitting well with The Doctor, but he's handling it in a refreshingly non-emo way. :clap

a facebook friend of mine sent me this link and said that it got his working again...

edit: after testing it out, it DOES work!

I was VERY impressed at the way the depression issue was handled as it didn't sugar coat anything and it didn't try and make Van Gogh the usual media stereotype of someone who has that illness ie some sort of would be serial killer.

Compared to RTD's battering ram method of handling tricky issues it was done with a suprising level of maturity and intelligence. Maybe Nu-Who CAN be worthwhile after all.

Best episode of Doctor Who since Blink.

I feel much the same way, although I greatly enjoyed The Unicorn and the Wasp and Vampires of Venice in the interim. I hope Richard Curtis is invited back next year, along with the director.

I really like this vid, great edit and song.

And yes, thank you for the links pix.

BBC Synopsis of the series finale just released:

The Doctor is gone, the Tardis has been destroyed, and the universe is collapsing. The only hope for all reality is a little girl who still believes in stars, as this series of Doctor Who concludes with an episode written by Steven Moffat.

BBC1 Saturday 26 June, Time TBA.

:monkey2

So are they referring to little Amy waiting outside as a little girl in 11th Hour??

Thought there was something more to that scene :lol
