It's part of the reason why I'm glad at times I've had limited exposure to other UK shows. It allows me to enjoy Doctor Who completely out of the loop of who they cast. Like with Billie Piper, no back ground and genuinely liked her (until RTD just couldn't let her alone). Another example is Catherine Tate, I absolutely LOVED her in seires 4 because I knew it wasn't going to be her "Catherine Tate Show" persona or the Donna we saw during Runaway Bride.

Cathrine Tate was annoying in her own show but i think in series four she showed she could actually act, sometimes i found her acting to be pretty brilliant when it counted, her also being a best freind type to the doctor rather than a love interest also played well and added a new dynamic that was just perfect for who she was.

ah yes love and monsters, good shout! and i didn't like that either...This one and love and monsters for the worst episodes? still id give it to this weeks episode because Peter Kay > James Corden

Peter Kay is marginally more talented than Corden but still pretty useless.

My 3 worst Doctor Who stories are,

1."Love & Monsters"
2."Blink" ( am reconsidering this one due to the lack of Tennant and my improving opinion of Moffat )
3."Family of Blood/Human Nature"

I didn't bother watching this week because of my dislike for Corden and from the sounds of it I didn't miss much.

Blink was ok, well written i thought although i dont think id rate it as highly as others do, Family of blood and human nature were episodes that started well but were killed by the ending for me when the doctor despite 3 months of her being at his side totally dismissed Martha and opted to tag along with a woman 'he' 'loved' after 2 weeks. I didnt understand the need for love and Monsters, why have a doctor who episode thats light on the doctor? im watching Doctor who because i want to see the doctor not some guy who gets oral from a paving slab!

why have a doctor who episode thats light on the doctor?

My thoughts exactly.

RTD and his flunkies may claim they didn't want to overwork the lead actors but when they're being paid such ludicrous sums of money then they should bloody well be made to work for it.

If this week achieved anything it was that it was the first "companion lite" story as opposed to a "Doctor-lite".

Having said that I'm sure many people ( including me ) would have sooner seen an episode focusing on Amy than having James "I'm fat. Laugh at me" Corden stinking up the screen.

Well I'll never be watching last night's episode again. Biggest pile of _____e I've seen in ages. Who's brilliant idea was it to have that "fat guy" on it ? ( can't bring myself to type his name ) He has no talent whatsoever. The story didn't add anything at all in my opinion. After last week's brilliant Van Gogh episode they give us this ? Sheesh ,makes me want to go watch the world cup ( and I hate football ).

Don't do it!...........you'll find this inexplicable urge to stick flags everywhere it's possible to stick them and the number 1966 will be the only one you can remember :lol

Did the preview for next week look any good?

next weeks episode looks to be 'epic' although bcm river song is making an appearance! it mentioned Sontarians, Dleks and cybermen in the episode along with a few shots of a severed cybusman head. I cant belive the hype english football gets for the world cup, one victory 44 years ago and people still hope we can win! football isn't a sport anymore its just a buisness, a money machine for endorsements and sponsors. Glad im not the only one who hated last nights episode.

Since when do the Cybusmen have spaceships???

Could be a good sign for those of us who want the REAL Cybermen back, considering River Song mentioned Cyber-Ships...

:lol Thanks Brendan ! I know what you mean about the flags , there is a distinct sign of overkill near where I live and to be honest its all laughable.

The preview looked really good, things aren't looking too good for the Dr and Amy , I'm hoping that this series goes out with a bang !

Oh God yes, please let us have our old Cybermen back ! Anything is possible, look at what they did with the Daleks ? Also the look of the new Tardis . I think we'll see a lot more "nods" to the older Dr's.

Some flags round my way disappeared after the end of last night's match, shows how genuine some of the "fans" are :)

From what you and N2k have said about next week it sounds like Moffat is going for the same approach to the last couple of episodes of his debut series as RTD, I just hope we don't get the blatant thieving from Star Wars and an ending that doesn't have a "magic reset".

I shall have to try and tune out River Song as best I can, with any luck Alex Kingston will fall out with the BBC over the summer and the character will disappear for good because IMO she's Moffat's worst contribution to the Whoniverse.

Re the Cybermen I would LOVE IT if the Mondasian ones returned and did to the Cybusmen what the new Daleks did to RTD's. A new look design containing elements of the various Classic Cybermen would be awesome as well.

The Cybusman costumes look great but I dislike their lame "Delete!,Delete!" catchphrase and couldn't really take them seriously as the actor who played their creator is most famous in the UK for playing an idiot ( Trigger in "Only Fools & Horses". )

I do like the Cybusmen, but only as an alternative to Cybermen, not a replacement. The Next Doctor should have been original Cybermen...

Also, I have a terrible feeling that the originals are gonna look like the Cybusmen, minus the C on the chest...I hope not though...

Good god no. First of all, I dont trust the new design team to come up with something good. Afterall, look at the bloated humpback mess that is the new Daleks and the orange MC. Escher painting that they are calling the new Tardis.

Second of all, if we do see a redesign, it isnt going to be anything at all like the classic series. For all intents and purposes this is a different show. Some fans just dont seem to get that this isnt the classic series anymore. Things that sort of worked 30 years ago arent going to work at all today. People demand a more cinematic level of production these days. Guys in silver jumpsuits with tubes glued to thier arms are going to get laughed off the screen.

I think the Cybermen will keep the current design if not tweaked a little, the severed cyberman head was this current design but if i remember right i was still alive. i liked the old ones design but they were always portrayed as nothing more than stormtroopers i think, an army but very indespensable. The new daleks are awful visually im not quite sure who ok'd that design but it's hideous, no one could say RTD's daleks were that bad. I think some more monsters were mentioned but i only remember those 3, im afraid to rewatch the preview incase i accidently get sucked into watching the episode again!

Slitheen, trilonian, nesteen and dravious? ( its hard to make them out over the loud ass music) were mentioned too, as well as a cyberman head with tenticles? Slitheen is wrong though that was just the name of the family not the race, the race was raxofalbtoriuians or something along those lines unless he's brining back just that family its a bit of a ****.

So one the one hand you don't think the new design team can be trusted just because they freshened up the tired old Dalek design and made a TARDIS interior you didn't like, yet on the other you are being critical of people who want more of an old school approach? :slap

As much as I wish the revived series was a complete reboot and nothing to do with the series that ran from 1963-89 it is supposed to be the SAME continuity so some consistency should be expected.

Obviously things should look a lot slicker nowadays but there's nothing wrong with the designs of many Classic villains that a bit of modern polish wouldn't solve. There's no need for complete redesigns every single time.

oh i watched the episode again, it was a mistake i couldnt help it..i looked at the trap ray!, much like a car accident i just couldnt look away.
"Im called the doctor, dont know why...people just call me the doctor i dont know why..." actual quote! what?
A headbutt now imparts the doctors history plus recent events (there even was a flash back to previous doctors including tennant!) and once again a bloody perception filter, its like the sonic screwdriver now perception filter has become the excuse for almost everything and its most prominant this series, its a lazy way out of writing a serious explanation.

It makes sense that the second floor had a perception filter, considering it's a TARDIS...or at least a copy of a TARDIS...the Doctor's TARDIS has one too...

Now the Torchwood lift having one simply because the TARDIS landed there...now THAT's stupid...

Say, who did the upstairs TARDIS belong to anyway???

i am in the philippines right now and it has been near impossible to download the new episode but I finally finished it. now I just need to get itunes so we can watch it. lol

Is it just me or have the last few days been an overload of EXCITE!!!!
