I don't really get how this would confuse things. Its a differnt universe with a different continuity and therfore a different doctor.

Im no more offended by it than I am by those cheap Bollywood knockoffs of American movies.

But why is it needed at all? can you think of a valid reason why a film version like suggested above is necessary at all?

I can only see ONE reason to do a film and if they did, it would star Paul McGann and end with a regeneration into Eccleston.

But that'll never happen :(

If there is to be a movie, Moffat will write and Matt or whomever the Doctor is at the time, will star. Do you really think the show runner would let the BBC walk all over him?

It would be entertaining, would expose more americans to the show, and would probably make money.

As far as making a new version of Who goes I say this,

_____K AMERICA

Don't get me wrong, there are many things I love about the country and I've met several very cool people from there via this site and others.

Having said that I find it ironic that a nation that professes to be the most politically correct on the planet seems to have a lot of people that can't accept any kind of foreign TV show unless it's changed to suit their tastes which usually means changing it to the point where it's barely recognisable as the same show.

The modern incarnation is already tailored to US audiences with all the overblown story arcs and the general style over substance approach so I don't see why anything else should be done to appease an audience that will inevitably ditch the show when the next "in" thing comes along.

its the same exact thing, just with its own continuity (and therfore a different actor) and without a british accent. Seems more or less exactly the same otherwise.

So no real point then :lol if money was an issue i dont think the show would of survived as long as it has even from 2005 - 2010, same goes for entertainment values it obviously does that well because its still on the air and bigger than ever before. "its the same exact thing, just with its own continuity (and therfore a different actor) and without a british accent" so why not just name it something else and not be related to Doctor Who at all? As much as this is a total rumour i think one day in some form or another we will see some big budget movie transistion.

Becuase the british accent and certainly the actor really isnt what defines the show. Its about an alien traveling time and space in the Tardis.
The movie would probably get much more flak for blatently ripping off Doctor Who than do do another continuity of it.

Im with you that it is only matter of time before there is a big screen adaptation. But it doesn't bother me in the slightest. Considering that it doesnt affect the real continuity at all, it is perfectly easy to ignore. It may suck, it may not be bad at all. Either way it is a totally seperate thing from the real show.

I can see the point that it would just be a rip off of the show if they named it different but rip-offs isnt exactly a hollywood rarity nowadays are they? but nether the less im looking forward to this coming special and the start of series 6, too many unanswered questions left and plenty to be excited about!

An American Doctor Who would never work for these simple facts.

1. No such thing as a Police Box in the US.
2. Even at the start the character of the Doctor was uniquely British with many Victorian mannerisims.
3. It would not draw in US audiences no matter what because there is already a (minor) awareness of Doctor Who in American culture. Those that know of the show wouldn't bother, those that tuned in likely wouldn't get it and then it would be canceled before the whole season airs.

And let's be frank, America would rather bow down to the likes of Jack Bauer than to the likes of the Doctor, sci-fi or not.

This year will be the first Christmas special I've watched since 2007 and though I'm not really a fan of big story arcs it makes a nice change to have some stuff carry over into the next series.

Stuff I'd like to see in the next series,

1.Mondasian Cybermen return and get rid of the Cybusmen.

2.The voice saying "Silence will fall" will turn out to be Adric.

3.River Song to be deleted from the universe or at least have her ending in series 4 rewritten so she can be killed again.

4.A new theme performed on a kazoo by a CGI Kandyman.

5.An episode directed by Michael Bay.

Perhaps 'Silence falls' refers to an impending accident River will be involved in where her voice box is removed...by Michael Bay and Adric.

Possible guest star for the next series?,

https://www.ericcantona.com/2010/06/23/matt-smith-wants-eric-cantona-on-doctor-who/

If this happened I reckon he'd be AWESOME as the Master, he's got the same kind of dark, brooding presence as Roger Delgado, a perfect "bad guy" persona from his soccer career and with a bit of a shave he'd also have the EVIL goatee! :)

Unlike most former sports stars he's pretty good at acting as well, his English is decent and if anything the accent would help add a bit of uniqueness to the newest incarnation of the character.......we've had Doctors speaking with Scottish & Lancashire accents so why not the Master with a French one?

From a ratings perspective it'd be a masterstroke because millions of Man Utd fans still revere him and would almost certainly tune in to see him be part of another British institution.

Do it Moff!

I'd be for it, especially if he looked like this

Exactly! he's even got the grey in his beard like Delgado!

If this happened I would instantly forgive Moffat for abominations like River Song and hiring James Corden :)

Guest stars for the Christmas Special are,

Top Gear test track legend Michael Gambon.

Welsh opera singer Katherine Jenkins.

The story will revolve around Amy & Rory's honeymoon.
