Yeah I liked it...it was everything a Xmas special should be and Michael Gambon was excellent
QFT! :lecture

LOVED this moment:

That was cute...I like how the kids all shy!
P.s why u down load it....they where giving on BBC America?

thought it was sorta decent. the sharks and fish in space was pretty stupid, IMO. but the heart of the show was in the right place, just reached a bit too far in adding a bit of special effects.

What?!?!?! That was the best part! :lol

Loved every bit of this episode. After the "...or as I know him, Jeff" line, my son yelled "WHAT?!?!?" and had a good laugh. Probably my favorite moment.

As has been stated already: The Doctor in a Santa hat driving a carriage pulled by a flying shark? :thud: Loved. Every. Minute. So glad this Christmas special was, for the first time, Christmas-y.

Santa will forever be known as Jeff in my house from now on :lol

I also liked the bit where the Doctor explained his reason for going down the chimney........he couldn't help himself :lol

One observation I made during the episode was that the whimsical nature wasn't a whole lot removed from the early McCoy era which gets ripped to shreds........what makes things so different now?

It can't just be the fact that today's audiences don't have to tolerate Bonnie Langford screaming every few seconds can it?

Actually that probably hits the nail firmly on the head :lol

Yea, il agree with this. I liked how in the RTD era they kept it grounded in science fiction, so everything was somewhat believable.

But in the Moffat era, it seems that they will do anything weather it makes sense or not simply because it makes for a cool visual. "Fish that swim in the air? Why the ____ not?"

Wow, I didn't like it at all. I really want to like Matt Smith, but in this case, I found the mania of his Doctor very nearly unwatchable. And does the music really have to be so loud and intrusive?

But really, the thing that bothered me the most about this story was that the Doctor's solution to the problem at hand was simply to rewrite Sardick's life until he got the answer he was looking for. In my book, that's not a heartwarming tale of the season: it is a horror story about how the Doctor can, through his manipulation of the timestream, do whatever the hell he wants with the reality of the pitiful mortals who cross his path. I know in the olden days, the Doctor used to leave the bodies piled ten deep behind him, but at least he let people make their own decisions -- he didn't just jump into the TARDIS, go back in time and screw around with their lives until they did what he wanted them to do.

While i like the RTD era i prefer flying fish over a sinking flying titanic while the queen waves the Doctor goodbye. This was the first christmassy Who episode of the new era for me, the rest had the earth (london) in peril with some killer santas to remind you it was a christmas episode in my opinion anyways, each to their own!

I liked Christmas Invasion better, but only by a hair... Only because of Song For Ten.

Matts contract is for at least 3 series.

I wish it would be possible to have a surprise regeneration. Knowing it's coming kinda takes the suspense out of, not only the regeneration episode, but the episodes leading up to it as well.

9 and 10's were still really good, but could you imagine if we didn't know it was coming?

While Tennant is my fave because he was my first Doctor, he was far too human and a little too easy to whine or cry. Matt is perfectly alien which is what the Doctor is and should be...alien, after Ecclestons angry warrior and Tennants talkative lover they finally found someone just right.

How i rank the specials so far (i dont count 'Next Doctor')

A Christmas carol
Christmas Invasion
Runaway Bride
Voyage of the Damned

Can anyone enlighten me as to who came up with the idea that whichever Doctor you saw first has to be your favorite as it's possibly the oddest thing I've encountered about Who fandom?

Using that rule Eccleston should be "my" Doctor as that was when I started watching the show seriously but he's not even in my top 5.

How I rank the Christmas Specials,

"A Christmas Carol"

"Voyage of the Damned" & "The Christmas Invasion" ( Both equally bad. )

"The Runaway Bride" ( The Tate creature debuted and my opinion of RTD's Who began it's decline. )

I didn't watch "The Next Doctor" or "The End of Time" part 1 as I refused to watch any more RTD episodes after "Journey's End".

:lol My brother loved the show (he is younger) and i used to make fun of him for it but one boring ass sunday i sat and watched it on some crud channel. Although i saw 'Aliens of London' first i think, i didnt actually start to get into it untill they played a Tennant one (Maybe 'New Earth') and from then i really liked the guy so i count him as my fave even though i know he isn't the best portrayal who i think is Smith. Its more to do with him holding a little place for getting me into loving the show in the first place...but i prefer someone else playing him :lol and it sounds so odd when trying to explain!

Never heard of that rule, myself. 9 was my first, but 10 is my fave.

My first Doc was Pertwee, there all my faves, every actor brings something new, that's so hard to achieve with ONE role.
My best test for Any Doctor is to imagine then playing the Doc in an older story or newer, any of then should be able to pull it off. Thats how good an actor has to be to play this part. And that includes the least popular and more maligned fellas.

I'm guessing you've never been on any of the dedicated fansites then as it's where I've come across it the most.

As odd as I think that type of thinking is it probably applies to me as well though as my earliest memory of the show is series 18 because I remember a tall dude with a burgundy colored coat although it wasn't me that was watching it as at the time I disliked any sci-fi that wasn't Star Wars.
