I would really appreciate it!!!

That truly sucks. I was just watching him the other day, on one of the extras on a recent DVD release. I absolutely loved the character of the Brigadier. :monkey2

The Brigadier is the best associate the Doctor has ever had bar none and Nicholas Courtney was also a pleasure to listen to on the various DVD commentaries and extras in which he participated.

I recommend a viewing of "Inferno" to see him at his best or "The Daemons" for his most famous line.

Nice tribute written by Tom Baker:

Nick Courtney died yesterday after a very long and painful battle with cancer. I went to say goodbye to him on Friday at the wonderful hospice near Belsize Park in North London. The lady in charge said he was very stoical. And indeed he was. It was so distressing to see him so weak and yet so strong in resignation. My jokes were received with a generous effort from Nick to smile. I was with Michael McManus who helped me through the ordeal of seeing a beloved old pal so reduced by illness.

Of all the characters in Doctor Who there is no doubt that he was the most loved by the fans for his wonderful portrayal of the rather pompous Brigadier. "Five rounds rapid" was the line we all loved, always addressed to Sergeant Benton. Nick's close friends simply adored him. There was a certain innocence in his personality that was utterly endearing. He was very easy to tease, and I did my share, which made him shake his head in disbelief when he realised he had been had.

He was a wonderful companion and his friends would call each other or e-mail to relate the latest little stories of a night out with the Brig. He had a marvellous resonant voice which he used brilliantly when it was his turn to spin a yarn. And his background was fascinating too: born in Alexandria, Egypt, he was brought up speaking French and Arabic. Later he perfected English and after a few drinks he would speak in Latin tags to great comic effect.

We shall miss him terribly.

Need to raise a glass to the Brig tonight. Just a great actor and a greater human being. Met him and talked to him at a con a long time ago. Was really great with the fans. Just sad that he never got screen time in nu Who though the Brig's name was dropped at least once a season. RIP sir.

I was fortunate enough to attend his funeral yesterday and I have to say Nick went out in style. A fitting tribute to not just a wonderful actor but a true gentlemen.

Nice to hear he got a good send off, it would be awesome if 2entertain put together some sort of tribute for a future DVD release.

The title could be 5 Rounds Rapid!:The Nicholas Courtney Story.

Yeah I agree. I hope somebody manages to get something together at some point.

He seems to have been almost universally loved by both fans and his peers so I'm sure there'll be no shortage of people wanting to contribute to such a feature.

I also hope Character Options can get the all clear to make a figure and if they do part of the proceeds should get donated to the hospice that looked after Nick.

Most of the tributes I came across were mostly tributes/elegies to the Brigadier and not Nicholas Courtney. I thought that was kinda strange...

A few new Who DVDs arrived friday

Earthshock - A great Cyberman story i feel and one of the few with them in that i enjoyed, Adric gets his squaking annoying ass blown to bits which suited great for a finale and reminded me that i wish Rose had bit the bullet for better impact.

The Time Meddler - I really enjoyed this episode, William Hartnell is quickly rising on my list of fave Doctors, his 'Space helmet for a cow?' line had me laughing out loud and the Monk deserves a bit more exposure than he got in the show. Could serve as a great story if the Doctor crosses his path again...

The Aztecs - Haven't finished this story yet but i'm liking the implications of Barbara trying to change history and straying on a little power hungry.

The Bannermen - Set in Wales the seventh Doctor hits some space bandits, i really dont like McCoy as a time lord and teamed with Mel i struggled to not switch off.

Earthshock and The Time Medler are among my very favorite classic stories. I haven't gotten around to The Aztecs yet. The Bannermen isn't even on my radar, but I do enjoy McCoy.

"The Aztecs" = Never seen it.

"The Time Meddler" = I like it.

"Earthshock" = One of only 2 Davison stories that didn't send me to sleep.

"Delta & the Bannermen" = I cannot watch stories with Mel in it on medical grounds........I risk an injured foot if it goes through the TV screen :)

I recently bought the "Revisitations volume 1" box set which has rereleases of 3 early DVD releases with new extras. It contains,

"The Talons of Weng-Chiang" = My 2nd favorite story ever.

There's a great new "Making of" feature in the extras that has Tom Baker and producer Philip Hinchcliffe in conversation as well as contributions from Louise Jameson and the actors that played Jago & Litefoot.

"The Caves of Androzani" = The other Davison story I like a great deal, largely because the 5th Doctor actually has some personality in it..........he's basically channeling Tom Baker for much of the story and I reckon the writer ( Robert Holmes ) still had Tom's Doctor in his head when doing the dialogue.

"TV Movie" = McCoy and McGann are great, Eric Roberts was passable as the Master although the CGI morphing and venom spitting bits were bollocks.

Other than that it's essentially a prototype of the RTD years eg

1.The companion falls in love with the Doctor.

2.The Doctor is revealed to be half human which clearly influenced RTD to try and finish the job off.

3.People "die" then get brought back almost straight away.

4.The style of storytelling is very Americanised although unlike Nu-Who it was specifically targeted to that market so there's more of an excuse.

I had to see it once to satisfy my curiosity about McGann but there's no way I'll see it again.

After liking my initial viewings via download I've also bought "Remembrance of the Daleks Special Edition", "Battlefield" & "Ghost Light" and will be getting "The Curse of Fenric" & "Survival" when I next have the cash.
