I am afraid the chance to shoehorn McGann into the Nu Series has come and gone.

Give the man his own series... Doctor Who: The Time War. That is what he deserves.

Having listened to his 8th doctor big finish series, I'd love to see it. He's ( oddly, as it's just radio dramas) one of my favorite doctors so far.

I don't read any Who sites, but is it possible that River Song is the Doctor's mother? She keeps mentioning that their timelines are going in reverse. And there is supposed to be a "love" relationship, but meanwhile it feels like the Doctor is going to be the cause of River's death.

Did you miss "Silence in the Library" and "Forest of the Dead" from season 3?

River "dies" when The Doctor first meets her. His first meeting, her last.

But, I agree with Pix, way too flirty to be of any relation.

I watched it, though I'm amazed you guys can remember every detail of every episode. :lol

It seems the theory can still fit if River dies while giving birth...though yeah the flirtation is pretty creepy. :lol But its not like the current Doctor is exactly the same person as her child would've been.

And those Dr Who writers do seem to enjoy pushing the envelope of taboo. :lol

I sure hope she's not his mother. That would trump George Lucas' Luke and Leia sibling romance in both the creepiness and horrible idea for a plot twist departments.

She CAN'T be his mother, because of what happen the First time the doctor meets her. go watch silence in the Library, from season 3, like Kabukiman said.

IF she were his mother she'd be a timelady.
If she's from galifrey, then
when her body dies at the end of slience in the librairy, she would have been able to regenerate. We've ALREADY seen her death.

more likely than not, she's his wife. OR a distant relation, like a descendant of susan.

I've seen Silence in the Library/Forrest of the Dead, but with Moffat I take nothing for granted. Seriously though, there's no way she's his mother. I don't think they would ever reveal somthing like that anyway. Same way we'll never learn the Doctor's real name. Some thing's are better left a mystery.

No she's not, unless she's a different incarnation of the Idris character that will be seen in episode 4.

And Idris is rumored to be
a humanoid manifestation of the TARDIS

Except for I thought the Doctor was half human, or am I confusing him with Spock??? :lol

That's kind of a point of contention. In the made for TV Doctor Who movie with Paul McGann, the 8th Doctor says he's half human on his mother's side. Though there is so much nerd-rage on that subject, I think it's best to leave it alone and leave it as a mystery until it gets spelled out for us in the current show.

That did happen, but he also had several superpowers in the tv movie that made no sense. Somewhere in the radio dramas he's makes a comment about misdirection and lying, and how they can be useful if used properly, or something like that... I forget where.

I got the impression that they were trying to work in a retcon there. by basically having the doctor say " GUESS WHAT? LOL I LIED!" I've been told that there is a comicbook somewhere that addresses is superpowers as well, wherein he basically says he had gadgets on him that let him do those things.

:shrug

Even if I've been told wrong, it makes sense. So it's the explanation I'll go with.

While I'm on the topic of McGann, and the 8th doctor... anyone know a good source for a frock coat like his?

I kinda need one for my wedding.

This weeks episode was very reminiscent of the X-Files in places and like that series did after roughly the same number of series Nu-Who seems to be disappearing up it's own backside with trying to be too clever and the end result was a barely comprehensible mess.

The ending with the kid was expected so it didn't suprise me but I'm intrested to see just how badly they explain who the father is....the mother is obviously Amy.

Next week looks like a welcome break from the overall story arc and can best be described as "Doctor of the Carribean".

I'm enjoying the new feel but i do agree while it was nice to have some shocks its getting a little messy, i would imagine kids having trouble catching up with all the ends Moffat is leaving around. It's my favourite start of any series so far but i hope it has a few light on the arc episodes. Next week looks pretty fun and is hopefully just a monster of the week turn up and win type episode.
