Who knows? :dunno I don't think Einstein could decipher Moffat's timey-wimey bafflegab.

I think he's got the same problem as RTD in that he thinks far too highly of himself and he makes things overly complex just so he can pat himself on the back on shows like Confidential or in magazine interviews and it either confuses viewers or just isn't very good.

Nu-Who and modern TV in general relies far too much on story arcs, convoluted plot twists, characters that aren't clearly good or evil and writers tend to disappear up their own arse with trying to make everything grand and "epic" when a simpler approach would be far more effective.

Just give audiences a clearly defined enemy, place the Doctor in their path and go from there......all the other BS isn't necessary.

I really enjoyed the character of Canton him and Matts banter in the office was brilliant as was most of Matts interaction with other characters. Not sure what direction the story is heading in or what im supposed to be looking out for since Moffat does throw a lot of little bits of arc in, but im glad how different it feels compared to last series where Moffat was slightly restricted about changing up everything from the previous reign. Also for the first time since its revival the sonic screwdriver hardly came out to play, in the first 30 minutes not once was it shown only appearing when canton is knocked cold, i think they use that device a little too much at times.

Really good episode.

I agree that sorta they painted themselves into a corner with the 200 years thing, HOWEVER, considering the Doctor is a time traveler we don't really know how much time he spends with "us" or his companions. I think it would be funny if he sorta said randomly at times, "remember last week when... oh yeah you weren't there."

We don't really know the Doctor's base line.

Anyway, I thought this episode was possibly better than any episode last season.

So if he spends the next 200 years as Matt Smith does that mean they're intending to end the series?

Or is this a red herring?

And it does make me think that if he has 12 lives and for 900 years he used just one and then in the last 50 he's gone through the other 11? Kind of reckless, eh?

He also Spent 600 years as the 8th doctor on a planet with highly intlelgent elephants with bodies like jellyfish. So it depends on how you look at it.

everything about today's episode was pure win

:exactly: :goodpost:

My favorite moment: (paraphrasing, cause I don't remember exactly)
The Doctor : You're not just going to shoot me.
River: Doctor, they're Americans!
The Doctor: Right... *runs*

And the 200 years thing doesn't really have to happen. Time can be re-written and all that. And if it does happen, that's just time left wide open for novels, games, and future specials.

A friend told me there was a voice-over by Amy during the credit sequence on BBC America. I can't seem to find any video of this anywhere, have any of you guys stumbled across the BBC America credits video?

I watched on iTunes, and there was no voice over, I'm told there was no voice over on the UK version either.

Yeah, there was a brief little intro sequence with a voice over by Amy just before the opening credits, basically giving a quick rundown of who the Doctor is and that she travels with him. It was obviously done to brief American newcomers.

Loved this first episode and I was genuinely freaked out several times. On my second viewing everything made a lot more sense and I can honestly say that it was ____ing brilliant! As for Moffat and company painting themselves into a corner, I highly doubt it. Even if the Doctor is dead, if Batman can return from the grave, I can guarantee a Time Lord can. It's all about what goes down with that Astronaut (and who was in that suit), those 200 years the Doctor spent running, Amy's pregnancy, and the final revelation about who or what River Song is. Within those four story elements right there is how the Doctor escapes from death. Hell, if Batman can plan ahead and escape the Omega effect and the living death that entails, the Doctor will be able to escape the grave as well. If you're wondering why I'm bringing up Batman, well that's what this entire situation reminds me of--Morrison's Batman RIP and the Return of Bruce Wayne. Just my two cents.

Anyone else think it was a bit obvious that the astronaut has to be
River Song
?

Not claiming spoiler knowledge here. Just my opinion.

I don't know about that but when you consider that the kid is
Amy's daughter and may also be seen to regenerate at some point
things are gonna get even more confusing :lol

Wha--!

Is that something you made up or an actual spoiler?

The first bit is 99.9% legit, the second is only a rumor that was passed on from a friend on another forum so can be taken with a pinch of salt.........for now.

I'm kind of surprised there aren't more concrete spoilers floating around the 'net (not that I'm looking) since both parts of the premier were shown in select theaters in the US a week or two ago...

River Song is possibly,
A Time Lady who has been brainwashed by the Silence for the purpose of killing the Doctor although she doesn't know this. The Silence have fitted her with a device that prevents other Time Lords from recognising her as being of the same race.

One of the Doctors is possibly,
A clone created by the Silence.

I have also read some blatantly fake stuff regarding the 8th Doctor..........poor McGann fans try the same thing every year :lol

I am afraid the chance to shoehorn McGann into the Nu Series has come and gone.

Give the man his own series... Doctor Who: The Time War. That is what he deserves.

Everyone must remeber that console room from last season. It used a lure/contact mechanism to try out people as possible pilots to complete its repairs. The spaceman/little girl is most likely that mechanism. If this is a simlar/same (tardis?)

The little girl is actually Adric, Nixon was right it's a boy and the spacesuit represents the one thing Adric wanted most in his last minutes
Well it's not far off compared to most theory's I've seen :rotfl
