I was genuinely crying, I admit.

The ending was just.. I don't have the words for it. Seeing Tom Baker back as the Doctor, it just.. gave me chills. Peter Capaldi's first appearance was amazing. All the Doctors standing together, .. I can't explain the feeling it gives me, it's pure amazement and joy and for a moment you forget it's just television, it's a legend. His actions haunted the Doctor for so long and now, after all this time, he's free of that guilt.

Also, John Hurt was fantastic. Such an old man, but on the inside so young and naive.

Absolutely worth the buildup. The chemistry between everyone was perfect. Cannot wait to see where they go from here.

Tom Baker returning at the end just put the biggest smile on my face.

I don't understand the Baker cameo. I like the idea of him popping up as a character...but not as Four. How is that even possible?

I did enjoy it but it was not going to live up to the hype and build-up.

Still it was much better than the usual Moffatt stories of late and it was well played by all.

I have been saying that the Time Lords would be coming back for ages now, and properly too, not the cheat/cheap way RTD used it. Looks like it is definitely going to happen now.

Hartnell was the Doctor of birth. PT was the second life, first regeneration. And so on. He gets to regenerate 12 times. That's thirteen lives. Then... The big cheat to give him more lives. Capaldi is the last "regular" life.*

* Or, as Pixeltwin has pointed out, there was the Meta Crisis where DT regererated but stayed DT. They may need to come up with a cheat to bring in Peter Capaldi.

I punched the sky and yelled "HELL YES" when Capaldi"s Doctor showed up and later when Tom came on. It was beautiful! Perfect follow up to An Adventure in Space and Time and a note perfect celebration of everything that is Doctor Who. Moving, soulful and absolutely timey-whimey! Glorious television. And the teaser for the Christmas episode is too sweet. Everybody's going to come gunning for the Doctor now and it all indeed ends at Trenzalore.

Watching it again...

"Look, the round things"
"I love the round things"
"What are the round things?"
"I have no idea"

:lol

Tennant and Smith were amazing together.

Hurt made me wish this story arc had stretched out a bit further, he's excellent in everything he does and he gave this episode some much needed weight.

The only thing I would have liked - I wish they had used David Bradley and Claudia Grant to portray Doctor 1 and Susan for the big round up at Gallifrey. The TARDIS set for AAISAT was fantastic and the actors were the spitting image.

And how could I not mention Tom Baker? It was so good to see him. What a great little scene. To suggest the Doctor will someday revisit old favorite faces was perfect. Was this #4 and some time craziness allowed him to be here? Was he #38? It doesn't matter. I was glad to see my favorite Doctor again.

Well I DID tell you Tom Baker was in it :lecture :lol

Overall i was disappointed in some aspects of the special, why didn't it start on Trenzalore straight from where The Name of the Doctor ended? There just wasn't enough of the Time War or The Doctor interacting with the High Council. Billie Piper was excellent but in a way i missed her interaction with David Tennant. Was it too much to have Davison, Colin Baker and McCoy film scenes in their Tardis' and using CGI to make them look younger?

Those were the bad points, the good points far outweighed them tbh and that was down to an excellent cameo by Tom Baker and the perfect use of the Zygons. But i do feel an excellent oportunity was lost to have previous Doctor's making cameo appearances even if the cost would have been greater with the need for CGI.

....and lastly was Tom Baker the the Doctor? Of course he was, just like The Watcher or The Dreamlord, The Curator is a manifestation of the Doctor's conciousness. An echo that reminds himself that Gallifrey, now safe, is waiting....... Which now with the Timelords back can now grant the Doctor a new set of Regenerations.

I suspect, due to the amount of special effects and sets and costumes, the cost for shooting 5, 6 and 7 in their respective TARDIS' and adding A LOT of CGI (Not all Doctors look as good as they used to, it'd take a lot of CGI to make them look their Doctor Who age) would be way too much. Afterall, this is television, not a movie. With John Hurt, Tennant, Tom Baker and Billie Piper in it, the budget was probably used fully on what we've got.

I have just watched it again for a second time and enjoyed it more this time round.

Personally, I thought that the whole Zygon thing was badly plotted and a bit of a wasted opportunity, the two halves of the story did not gel very well.

Having said that, Matt and David were excellent throughout in their established roles, and John was great as the War Doctor. Tom was a delight to see...and that voice is amazing. I suspect that for rescuing the Time Lords and Gallifrey, the Time Lord Council will recognise The Doctor's efforts by giving him unlimited regenerations and the ability to revisit his old faces from time to time. I loved the way Tom played his cameo with Matt, like he was having a cheeky little joke with him, it was such a sweet end to the episode.

On a technical note, and once again I stress, what a great shame that the BBC has turned its back on 3D, as this episode was without doubt some of the very best 3D I have ever seen, especially the painting. It was amazing. And there is an audience for 3D, the cinemas were packed out as I understand it, so to drop it now may be a mistake.

This episode is the best Moffatt/Smith WHO for some time. Roll on the holiday special.

I think with the Timelords returning which would in turn make cross-dimential encounters possible, the chance of previous incarnations returning has just doubled. Steven Moffatt said on British television last week that he'd consider bringing back previous Doctor's if they were right for the story. Well if you bring back a singular Doctor and didn't need to use as much CG work depicting the Time War the cost would be more reallistic for the show.
