I had to look a bit about the Macra, and actually someone I love to see writting for a while to come is Mr Moffat. I can watch Girl in the Fireplace time and again it's that good. I think most people see how high Who is riding and would try to mess with things too much, definatly not like the last few seasons of the classic series.

funny you mention that, I have TGitF on my DVR still recorded, one of the best episodes of last season, plus Madame de Pompudor is wicked hot. :monkey5 :monkey5

Ha, for the record I meant that people WOULDNT try and change Who too much. I forgot to type it correctly and now that Ive been quoted I see no point in changing my post. Also do any of you listen to the Podcast/audio commentary put out by the BBC... they were making interesting hints at Gallifrey. Now as to if they were being coy or not I have no idea. What makes me very sad though is that they said this effectively closes the year 5 billion trilogy and they are unlikely to go back. Now that makes me sad because I LOVE the minor charcters they introduced such as Brannigan and Hain. I think it would be fantastic for the Doctor to go back and take care of the Macra while seeing that for once his infulence had nearly zero negative unforseen effects unlike in The Long Game where it was his fault that the Daleks could just harvest Earth.

A UK sci fi magazine recently did it's readers awards and Doctor Who and The Girl In The Fireplace got the best episode.

I think Army Of Ghosts/Doomsday was number 3 and my personal fave from last year Impossible Planet/Satan Pit was number 6.

There were other shows in the top ten as well though:lol

What would you guys say are your favourite episodes of the series so far and which would you say are your least favourite.

For me favourites are Rose, Dalek, Impossible Planet/Satan Pit, least faves are Love And Monsters and Fear Her.

Hmmm, this is quite hard to choose...I would go with a top 6
1- The Girl in the Fireplace (just fantastic, excellent supporting cast and story)
2- The Satan Pit (I think the idea behind the "devil" was both interesting and thought provoking)
3- The Impossible Planet (Just the lead up to T.S.P. was just as great as the payoff for it, plus I think black holes are interesting)
4- Doomsday (great last 5 minutes of this episode won me over alone)
5- The Parting of the Ways (captain jack was in full form)
6- Toot and Claw tied with The Doctor Dances (I love werewolves and eccleston was great in T.D.D.)

And the WORST WORST WORST WORST WORST episode in the history of TV was Love & Monsters, *shiver* I try to erase that from my brain

Oh lord Jabba... I hope you know you've just given me a reason to procrastinate even longer. I think what I will say right now is that my favorite is Girl in the Fireplace tied very closely with Doomsday. GitF wins though becasue it is a self contained story. However, later I will write up MY thoughts on all the new episodes thus far, up to and including Gridlock. I dont know when I will post them and I don't know if Ill rank them (i may just go in order from Rose to Gridlock or DiM) but I want to give my perspective both good and bad.

My favorites are anything with Daleks or Cybermen, and Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit.

Least favorite is Love and Monsters. The ending is just unsettling. :monkey4

I can see what they were trying to do with Love And Monsters, make a different type of episode and show the Doctor's world from the perspective of people not directly involved but people who were eager to know more about him.

I just didn't think it worked particularly well, the Abzobaloff was created by a kid. There was a create a monster for Doctor Who competition on Blue Peter in the UK and the winner got to have their monster appear in an actual episode of Dr Who. The Abzobaloff won.

Not only that but Elton came off more as a caricature than anything else. And we won't even speak about the BJ joke with him and Ursual. That had absolutely no place in Who. Let's keep the sexual inuendos at "dancing" and call it a day.

Well with RTD I don't think you can expect that. Oh well, one bad episode per season is okay with me.

Rose - Episode 1.01 First Air Date: 26 March 2005

The first of my reviews of the new Doctor Who. I'll give my thoughts on the episode and then the final score will be based on script, acting, and episode design. Reason for this is that the show is notorius for basic effects and effects are always hard to quantify. Now, are you sitting comfortably? Good, then we'll begin.

The episode starts out fast paced as we get a look at a day in the life of Rose Tyler. After a few minutes we get into what we all want, and that is a look at Chris's version of the Doctor, and Autons to boot! It was nice to see a "modern" Doctor but also a little odd there we don't really know WHY he has his current body even though we get the first hints of the "Time War". The episode is a good one, although the comedy bits (headless Auton Mickey, the Thing impersonating arm) fell flat for me. Another bit that got me was the fact that CE was the Doctor in alll the previous depictions of himself despite acting as if freshly regenerated when looking in the mirror at the Tyler flat. I think something more interesting may have been written documents describing how CE looked as the Doctor but also have discriptions that matched say.. Tom Baker, or McCoy or even Paul McGann. It would have been a nice nod to the history of Who, added some mystery and still not have confused thinking viewers. Other things of interest were how strong the Autons were (only two could restrain the Doctor), also since when did generic shop dummies have guns and the like in their hands. Would it have been that difficult to have a scene in the begging at Hendrick's where they brought in "new" dummies? Also not too fond of Mickey as "the idiot" although his further appearances made up for this.

Overall:
Script : 7/10
Acting: 8.5/10
Ep. Design: 8/10

Final: 7.8 / 10 - Good introduction to Who for new fans and showed the potential of the new series.

Next time: The End of the World

Yeah that's true, the good episodes really do outweigh the bad here, the half a dozen episodes I mentioned were the ones that truly stood out for me, not the good ones, the ABSOLUTELY brilliant ones that I could watch again and again and again.

Basically other than Love And Monster and IMO Fear Her there hasn't been a bad episode in the new series and there have been lots of stand out episodes to boot.

Memnoch thanks for your first review, pretty cool, never thought about the guns in the fingers on the Autons before.

I loved Rose and I hope RTD or one of the other writers bring the Autons back in an episode of Doctor Who next season.

I loved Rose and I hope RTD or one of the other writers bring the Autons back in an episode of Doctor Who next season.

While I loved Rose, in the second season, she was kind of getting on my nerves. In the first season, she was this naive girl, obvliuos to everything in the universe and was exploring and learning new ideas (just like the new audience was, which was great). But in the second season, she kind of turned into a partner and less like a side-kick. Which to me I didn't like. THe doctor's one of a kind, super-genius and all that, and then there's this teenage human girl who is like taking charge and all that. I can understand that the writers wanted Rose to have a sort of evolution, but to me it happened too fast. With that said, I still loved her and didn't want to see her go. I'm just hoping that Martha is very much different, after all, she is quite smart on her own (being a "doctor" herself).

Yeah she did seem to grow up awfully fast, maybe her evolution would've been slower if Billie Piper had been around for longer.

They did seem to hint as well that the Doctor and Rose had adventures that weren't seen on screen, like at the beginning of Army Of Ghosts and the stories she told Mickey when they met up again in season one's Boom Town, like there were things happening that we'd missed.

I think that was their way of trying to compensate for how quickly she just adjusted to the whole time travelling thing.

Hopefully Martha will be around at least a season longer than Rose and that way the writers can evolve her a little slower.

I mean that makes sense them traveling together a little longer than we saw them. Reminds of how Rose used to dress in the first season compared to the second. Like in the first season she dressed more like a casual teenager, while in the second season she dressed more like a grown woman. Oh well, I do agree that I hope Martha slowly comes to grips with traveling with the doctor. I wonder if her crazy family will play a part in the series like Rose's family did.

Apparently it's been hinted that as the season goes on her family will come to play a major role in one of the stories.

I think there might be some kind of past tragedy that we don't know anything about, like the way they gradually revealed the truth about Rose's dad.

I'm not saying Martha's tragedy will be a death, but I heard there is going to be something more involving her family before the end of the season.

I thought that episode with the killer tv's was a bit dodgy.
