Dolls vs. Action Figures

What is the correct terminology for pose-able plastic pieces of the 1/6 scale: dolls, action figures, or something else?

I call them friends

For the purpose of this site, they're all dolls with a few minor exceptions.





If they're mostly sculpted plastic and/or rubber, they're action figures.











If they're 80-90% clothes and other materials over a poseable body, they're dolls or dollies.

In all seriousness, I think the term "action figure" was invented to differentiate kids who collect G.I Joes way back in the 60's to make it less humiliating. It's like calling someone "obese" instead of "fat".

Or lovers. My Hot Toys 89 Batman figure will attest to this .
