I want ZERO HT from this movie.

Ok maybe the religious ladies would be cool…

Uhh Alien, Predator and Blade Runner exist in the same movie universe bud 😉

Yes, that's another interesting discussion. :lol

There's lots of clues and connections to a wider universe, right back to the massive Easter egg in Predator 2.

Though comparing movies I'm drawn more to the Alien series and Blade Runner (connected by their androids).

It would be so much simpler to put the Predator series into 'A' and call it a day, but the first two films were more like monster movies: jungle hunter and city hunter.

Predator (1987) always felt a bit insubstantial as a film, while Predator 2 had more going on. They're of secondary interest to the main event: Xenomorphs and actual space travel.

i guess you are not a fan of Dark City?

Sleep now!!!

The title reminded me of the weird French film with Ron Perlman, but that was City of Lost Children - a film I found so creepy I sold the DVD, which is something I've rarely done.

According to my movie list I have Dark City on DVD, so I have watched it, but don't recall much about it. :monkey3

I hate this new G-rated sanitized PG-13 violence we get these days. I'm reminded of TDK and TDKR where apparently PG-13 means absolutely no blood *ever* in battle. Only blood of people previously wounded in battle.
Agreed. It actually serves to cheapen and dilute the reality of violence.
It's also kind of hilarious that by upping the diversity and making all the Fremen black or brown they've now instantly turned the entire narrative into another non-PC "white savior" trope which the book and previous film were *not* since everyone was white. Oops, lol.
I noticed that as I was watching. Still thinking about that. I remember one specific Fremen in the book being described as having sandy brown or blonde hair, but I'm not sure if Herbert described them *all* as caucasian, I need to re-read it.

I've watched it twice now in full and I'm itching to watch it again.

I just love stories set in deserts. I was always miffed seeing Luke leave Tatooine in A New Hope!
Dune was one of Lucas' influences. If it weren't for Arrakis, there may not have been a Tatooine.

Well as I'm continuing to think about this film the next day I can't help but feel that there was a missed opportunity in ending this film in a more satisfying manner. Peter Jackson did a great job of elevating Lurtz in order to give FOTR a climax with some real oomph and I think that Villeneuve should have done the same. Imagine if after they met Lady Galadriel they just walked to the canoes and then bam, done.

Or if ANH ended after Luke successfully deflected the training remote blasts on the Falcon. "You've just taken your first steps into a larger world," credits. Lol

I'll see if I feel the same after a second viewing.

Also it seems like a big oversight to not have the film continue until at least Lady Jessica drinks the Water of Life and warps the consciousness of her unborn daughter. Because after that happens even the book skips ahead three years to Paul being 18 and his little sister fully walking and talking, and
his own son being born to Chani.
That would have synced perfectly with a three year production and release schedule.

Imagine ESB ending with:

“Luke…I am….” ROLL CREDITS! :rotfl

3 years later ROTJ opens with….

“your father!”

LOL

Or maybe the equivalent would be ANH they arrive on Yavin, everyone looks up and sees an X-Wing flying overhead with a rebel pilot inside, they go "wow," credits.

lol

And I'm sorry but Feyd really should have been in this freaking movie.

Literally just got back from the cinema, and I thought it was good, definitely Villeneuve's best Sci-first so far.

As an adaptation of Dune though it's really the cliff notes version, none of the themes or philosophy comes through. The characters apart from Paul and Jessica are very thinly sketched and are very different to their book counterparts.

It's very much Villeneuve's Dune rather than Frank Herbert's, and yes I do prefer the Lynch version.

I hope part two does get made and will be buying this when it hits 4k blu ray.
Yep, IMO it feels too casual for Dune, as compared to Peter Jackson's work; or even the first Matrix. The sense of weight; that worlds will change.

But at the same time felt it was a film made with care. I'd give it a 7/10. There's no character that especially sticks with me, or any line from this version. But, I would have cheerfully watched several more hours of film, so it's mildly annoying to wait for a sequel, too.
