DX09 KEATON BATMAN: residue in abdominal area, has yours shown signs of it?

Well, i'm glad I only settled for The Bruce Wayne Bats and immediately looked away from this one. Funny, i think my Wayne head sculpt has a bit of oil on his forehead.

Yeah, I've seen some of that, but nothing on the order of the earlier batch, and it was a lot less consistent. I don't think any ruined suits were reported. I had a second batch suit that never had leak problems.

There were several with the decals in the bicep/shoulder armor ruined. There was also leakage behind the abs, around the sides of the rib cage.

I've owned the DX2 Batman for a while now and luckily it never leaked. I think I got one of the later batches as well. I have an 89 Batman on the way and this thread makes me concerned but hopefully I will avoid the oil problem twice.

HT replaced bodies for DX-02 eventually, but they only did that for awhile.

Here was what happened to my figure, for folks who may not have paid much attention to that debacle:

PJW's point about pressure being applied could certainly be accounting for some of this.

Thanks Karamazove80. I don't have DX02, and have not experienced any problem with DX09 or BB Bruce. Those are the only 2 rubber suits I have. I will say that I RARELY handle mine. I hope that helps in not contributing to the potential of problems. And even if there is some oil eventually surfaces, as long as it doesn't do any permanent damage, I'll deal with it. I know this is a high end toy, and it sucks this is happening, but $100,000 Mercedes break down too. Nothing is perfect.

So checked this morning, My older Bats, has some signs that the oils is still coming out. Shiny area where it was dry yesterday. I must stress this is without the belt on. I think the rubber has started to have that bubbly warped look to it (like the Comedian's harness) Yikes!

So what to do?
I packed my newest Bats away, after removing his cape, and adding separating tissue between his cowl and shoulders as well as removing his belt. He seems dry still since yesterday.

On my older Bats, I have wiped it down again and now I rebacked the belt with some of the original black paper it came with. This is actually almost invisible against the suit. So time will tell I guess.

There's a horrible sense of Deja Vu about all this. Anyone who went through the DX02 debacle will know this is how it all started. Thing is, these are mass manufactured. These types of production errors are not normally singular. This figure is just out, more people don't have it than have it right now.

I know we will have the people posting "mine is perfect, you are all crazy" "stop panicking" etc. etc. before theirs have the same problem a few weeks later and they freak. I'm not panicking, I'm observing, and sharing those observations for those who are interested.

So if possible, anyone who isn'y familiar with the issue, please read some of the DX02 or Comedian threads before posting silly comments. They have all been said before. This is a real problem with some Hot Toys releases and not a figment of owners imaginations. It has nothing to do with: Handling/light/temperature/ etc, we have been through all of that a couple of years ago. I hope it doesn't get worse on this Bats... but I have to admit..I have a bad feeling about this...

elvis1976 used flexible superglue to coat his comedian gear and it seemed to work. guess its time to buy a few bottles and try it on this mess as a last resort to save keaton!. damn you hot toys.

Is there any evidence that the rubber is actually breaking down yet? (and no, "oil" is not evidence of full decomposition, it could be a number of things).

When/if that happens is when I'll join the pants crapping.

Return it.

Based on the DX02 incident, no point, until HT acknowledge the problem and change the manufacturing process as they did with DX02.
I would be exchanging like for like. At the moment I am assuming that they are all like this, just a matter of time. I have two and both have the same issue.

I actually ended up getting an oil free (I think) plastic chest version of DX02 after a lot of hassle with Customer Services at Hot Toys.
Even some of these (as Nam quite rightly pointed out) began to leak from other areas.

Feels softer in that area, look at the pic I posted above, you can see some warping already, same as Comedian and DX02.

Hmm. Definitely something to keep an eye on.

Glad you brought this to everyone's attention so we can at least be aware of another potential chemical reaction/breakdown issue. But at this point it's still too early to tell if this is in fact the same DX2/Comedian issue.

Trust me, I really hope it isn't. This is the best HT release ever as far as I'm concerned. And damn it, if this doesn't put a very big dampener on the Batmobile coming next year.
:(

I never expected Batman to last forever. If something like this happened like 10 years down the road, it would suck, but I would understand. However after 2 months it is ridiculous.

Thankfully I was able to convert my order for my second Batman to a Joker.

I will never buy a Hot Toys rubber figure again.

It's not been 2 months yet...

So you think it's a smart idea to still buy the figure and wait till we find out whether the rubber breaks down or not? If it does, then what? Risk shoddy HT customer service to replace it? Sell at a loss? I think not :lol

HT doesn't get the benefit of doubt from me given the track record

What counts as an official distributor? Is whysoseriousonline.co.uk an official distributor?

I believe that an "official distributor" is a place that gets their stock directly from Hot Toys. As far as I know, Sideshow Collectibles is the only one in the U.S. and every other store gets their stock by purchasing in bulk quantities from Sideshow.

For the U.K, I've read that the official distributor for Hot Toys is some place called "Modeller's Loft"

Sideshow will take care of you but as we saw with the Begins Batman fiasco, many got replacements which were actually worse with more dented suits and broken boots, so as long as HT doesn't fix the problem by reproducing the figs with a new, problem free process, you will be screwed

^Well, wouldn't Hot Toys still process exchanges if the figures were bought from an official distributor (eg. SSC)?
