I do not have a DX02, nor was I around when it came out. Did the leakage on that figure cause permanant damage to the rubber suits or any other party of the figure? Did SSC or HT replace or fix the problems for customers?

From what I gather, it's not the leakage that's responsible for damaging the suits. The leakage is a result of the rubber breaking down, softening, and liquifying because of a chemical reaction between the rubber and the plastic components that it comes into contact with. At least, that's the going theory from people who had experienced the horrific incidents of the DX02 and Comedian figures.

Two months or thereabouts. No sign of oil. I also had a DX02, which never exhibited any oil either.

I've worked with polyurethanes and silicones for many years now. If the rubber mix is bad, it usually shows up pretty quickly as oil patches like beads of sweat.

I think there is possibly a different reason for this. Hot Toys uses a lubricating oil to getting the rubber suit on. Once the suit is on that oil has no place to go, but sit there. If the oil is excessive it will eventually leak through any points where the true type body touches the suit and pressure is applied, like around the belt area.

A suggestion - and Ill be doing the same if mine starts leaking - remove the rubber suit. Wash the true type body and suit with liquid soap to remove all of the lubricating oil. Once it is fully dried, use talc to aid getting the suit back on.

If it is the lubricating oil causing the issues, this will certainly help. Certainly worth a shot.

Finally....someone with a shred of common sense. Thank you. :goodpost:

Ok. Do you know WHAT the final damage was to the rubber suits or any other part of the figure ? Did SSC or HT replace or fix the problems for customers?

Why would anyone hope for this to be an issue (apart from if you're Enterbay or on their payroll :lol)? We know all too well what's gone before and there's nothing to suggest HT has learnt anything from the past

HT replaced bodies for DX-02 eventually, but they only did that for awhile.

Here was what happened to my figure, for folks who may not have paid much attention to that debacle:

PJW's point about pressure being applied could certainly be accounting for some of this.

Well, it's either premature panic or some people are just looking for a reason to cancel their order. The latter is the only semi-logical scenario.

This is not even remotely a bonafide issue yet. Worth being mindful of and keeping an eye on? Certainly. Worth acting like a bunch of crying chicken littles? Not at all at this point.

:rotfl That video is long gone.

He didn't have a leaky figure, and didn't really hang around the thread enough to see how bad the issue really was, so he doesn't understand. :lol

This thread is so :lol already.

I also get the sense that a few of you actually hope this is an actual issue.

I agree. It's like people enjoy having something to complain about -let's compare who has the most oil - well mine appeared two weeks ago - mine was fine until yesterday - this is just disgraceful on Hot Toys part blah blah blah. It's the same with different batches - my batch one has got longer ears than you second batch OUTRAGE! The fact that the whole oil thing needs its own thread is pathetic. Just enjoy the figure - I had DX02 and I have DX Keaton and neither leaked or leak and its probably becuase I dont handle them and re-pose them every few minutes. Soem poeple are just never happy.

I never touched my DX02 after posing him how I liked, 3 months later he was leaking significantly

So that theory is out

Btw for the record if loved the 89 film anything like how I love the Nolan films I wouldn't have cancelled my order, I'd have been pissed, but I'd still take the figure. I'd probably end up changing his body or whatever works to ensure it doesn't leak.

We have rubber parts on cars, faucets, floor mats, etc. I've never seen any of them leaking or melting and they are exposed to heat, abrasives and other compounds. The only rubber I see oil leaking in my life is from Hot Toys.

Not true. I have the HT Comedian. :(

I was able to fix mine before the chemical reaction started to breakdown the rubber, though. I have yet go see a single sign that my Keaton Batman will have this issue.

And here's another thing... even if there is some residue or "oil" on these figures it doesnt mean it's the same thing as DX02 or Comedian. It can be any number of things, some of which are quite innocuous. Absolutely silly to claim its time to panic.

No, folks had leakages who never even took the figure out of the package. It was not an issue with the DC Direct batch, so unless you got one of the earlier released figures, you probably didn't have this problem. It's happened twice before. It could well happen again. It's fine to take the "wait and see" approach, and of course, it is possible that nothing comes from this. But if you're not taking the proper precautions, then don't complain if you end up with a ruined suit and can't get a replacement later.

Myth. Even the DCD run had leakage. :lecture:lecture:lecture:exactly:

Yeah, I've seen some of that, but nothing on the order of the earlier batch, and it was a lot less consistent. I don't think any ruined suits were reported. I had a second batch suit that never had leak problems.
