1,250 is too high? The RWOS edition size must be just crazy then. :lol

Yea, well the Frodo VS Gollum was 1,250 and you can find that for retail or less.

Let me know when you can find RWoS for under $500 and we'll talk.

It's all about supply and demand. The demand for RWoS will always be there. The demand for Frodo VS Gollum isn't. Period. End of discussion.

 then why even bother making an auction for an item that will be aval later on? There goes the 1 ES uniqueness of it. maybe they should have went with silver or gold for the auction?

The auction one has detachable wings for the Fellbeast thus unique. :)

My thoughts exactly when I first read through the auction that the "rare" golden standard bronze would be available for sale soon, except wings are permanently attached. Who cares about that minor detail?

My point is that 1,250 isn't a high ES. I'm simply talking from the amount made and especially when the demand does seem high for a piece.

1,250 for Frodo vs Gollum is probably too high since that particular scene doesn't resonate with every fan. The piece itself is very nice though. This piece has been WELL accepted by everyone so in this case 1,250 ISNT that high. PERIOD! END OF DISCUSSION.

1250 is very reasonable. 1000 or less would have been great, but they're sold out either way

Did it EVER occur to you guys that when SSC posts "sold out" it doesn't necessarily mean that they actually have a buyer for every piece in the edition?

I have a very strong feeling that if the edition is set to 1250, there may be 900 buyers, for example. There will be cancellations and declined CCs. However, by setting it as "sold out" collectors start freaking out and the "OMG I need to get on the wait list NOW if I want to avoid secondary market prices and OMG it's sold out, it is SO desirable!" mentality sets in. I got a Hulk vs Spidey Exclusive and I got on a waitlist I think 2 MONTHS after being "sold out". And so far (except for ancient SSW wait lists) I have always gotten stuff from wait lists.

It doesn't HAVE to be this way but I have a feeling it is. Buyer psychology exploited, I don't disparage them for it. ::monkey3

Plus theres probably an allocation made to retailers included in that 1250, and it seems(the ones ive checked at least), that its still easily available, and at a discount.
x

If Sideshow really wanted to throw collectors into a tizzy, they should have capped this thing at 750 pieces. You want to pump interest back into this line, then throw in a low ES on a piece that is being well-received across the board. 1,250 is too high, IMO, but then again it's an assurance that most people who really want it will get it. In the end, I'm sure there will be cancellations, second-chance offers, and wait list conversions.

The ES is OK what will keep the secondary prices high is the coolness factor this thig is BAD A$$!

This piece has had the most favorable reception so far based on the initial pictures, and I think it is deserving of a larger edition size based on the popularity. I think this line can support those numbers when the demand is there on popular pieces.

I'm sorry, Josh, I didn't mean to post my opinion, especially if it goes against yours. Please forgive me.

You're forgiven.

I was just simply making a comment if 1,250 is too high then any item in the SSW line with an ES bigger than that must be TOO big then. I wasn't saying anything about you posting or not posting your opinion. Get over yourself would ya.

And I think that is the flaw in your assertion. The number of collectors actively pursuing LOTR pieces today is probably only 10-20% of what it was four years ago, for a number of reasons.

First, the movies were still fresh and topical in peoples' minds back then, leading to more interest in collectibles and other tie-in products. Today, most people have moved their attention to what is more current. Second, there are many more lines of collectibles, even just within the products offered by Sideshow, than there were 4 years ago, all vying for peoples' attention. And third, many people do seem to be more frugal in their collectibles purchases right now.

All of those factors affect what the viable ES will be for any piece in any line today relative to what a similar piece might have supported four or five years ago.

Personally, I don't think the ES of this particular piece is that far off, but I think it will be interesting to see if it is low enough to sustain a 'grail' status over time. The consensus does seem, though, to be that once an ES hits four digits, the sense of urgency, the "I've gotta get this now or I'll miss out!" factor, may be somewhat lessened.
