Agreed many factors come into it and each individual is going to look at it differently.
Yes i have recently discovered the enormous shipping prices we have to pay living Down Under.Considering that it is usually still a fair bit cheaper than buying here what can us collectors do.Nice piece for sure and no need for minor disagreements lads we'll leave that to the SW crew.:D :)

Well, I'm getting it for under $500AUD, which if you take the US price of $300, add postage which would be at least $100-150, then add a bit of an exchange rate and its pretty even money. Of course what happens if it has a problem having come directly from SS. I get to inspect in person before fully paying.
It does have one downside of course and that is it won't get here till August (assuming an early July release in the US). But I can live with that.

That might be OK for you, but it has never been (and never will be) OK for me. I don't get some kind of bizarre thrill from putting $20 bills in the fireplace to watch them burn. Evey dollar I spend matters to me, and if I find that I could have saved a third of the cost of a collectible by waiting, it really bothers me.

Pretty hard to argue with this statement. :lecture I saved over $100 apiece on my ML and CT LSB's, and got the Helm's Deep dio. for 1/2 price by showing a little patience. Don't get me wrong, I love SS's product's but I'm not interested in making them filthy rich....at my expense. There hasn't been a single SS LOTR product, that I can recall, that hasn't been available at less than retail cost after it's release so if it's not an excl., chances are I won't be purchasing it directly from SS. Though I can certainly understand why someone living in Europe, Asia, or Australia would. If it comes down to saving some money and being able to own my own home as opposed to handing all my money to SS and living at home with my parents...I know what my choice would be!

Patience has proven to be a huge money saver for me as well. Just looking over my account at "ToyTracker" and I can see that I have saved thousands in the process.

As much as I enjoy my collection, I certainly would not want for it to depreciate significantly, especially if purchased at retail prices. I don't plan on selling any of it, but as mentioned by Josh, you never know what life brings your way. In case of an emergency, I wouldn't want to know that having paid/invested say $3,000, as an example, that I could only recover $1,000 or less, if needed.

Even you one doesn't sell, it just sucks seeing the item selling on ebay for $100 bucks when one paid $300. :monkey2

No truer word have been spoken.I really feel for the people that paid full price for the MR millenium Falcon or any other collectable only to see it selling for much less a year later.

Well . . .I pre-ordered, but gauging how this might be available for cheaper down the line . . .it's a dice toss whether to cancel and pick it up on the Bay. The fact that there is no EX version of it means I can find another version on the Bay. BUT, if production issues crop up, and finding a mint one makes it challenging, then, Sideshow's guarantee will go a long way.

For the money, right now, the only thing I don't like about it is the paint app on the Eagle. For that, I'll be glad to buy a second version if they release the faux-bronze next.

Funny, but I'm not a big fan of the faux-bronze versions of these statues.

I much prefer the fully painted up versions, especially for this particular piece.

I agree, I also prefer a painted statue but that won't stop me from getting a bronzer.:D

This really is an awesome piece from one of the best scenes in the film and book. Cant wait to get it. does anyone think it should have been bigger though?

Welcome back Turins Bane. Haven't seen you on the forums in quite awhile.

hmmm, at around 2 foot square.... no, its more then big enough already :p

jbinny: based on the last Flex payment date (June 10), I think you can be sure it will ship before the end of June. So not that long, really.

Yeah, I was just thinking that...I reckon it will be about the same size as the Sauron LSB box...which is massive!

And think of the box it'll come in! The Helms Deep dio box was big enough...

yeah, tell me about it. I tend to buy these in town and take them home on the train. I did that with Aragorn at the Black Gates and Legloas and Gimli on Arod (no not at the same time), and just the 1km walk to the train just about killed my arms.
I have a very bad feeling about this one, even tho based on the spec's, this will be lighter then either of those 2, its still going to be a darn huge and heavy box.

With the wings attached, I'm guess that the fel beast will be diagonally from corner to corner of box, with the base and the eagle filling out the other corners. Even so, the box will have to be around 2 foot square and likely a foot deep.
One thing's for sure, there will be a lot of annoyed courier drivers when that ships :lol
