I'm probably going to be putting a few things up on eBay...and reading this thread makes me really not want to.

Here is my blocked list. If you are on it, either you asked a beyond stupid question so I blocked you because you will lead into problems, gave me problems about something and was really petty. List is long because I have been on ebay for 8 years.

I've never had a problem, but you just never know when you're gonna get "beat".

I've always had good experiences...but I'm going to be selling what many consider to be a "grail" and I'm just nervous selling something on ebay that is of high value. I really don't want it to turn into a nightmare.

i usually find its the buyers with 0 feedback that end up not paying, so when you open a dispute, they get tagged, then just end up deleting their account. As a seller, you are allowed to tell buyers that if they dont have a certain amount of feedback, you will delete their bid or whatever, just to get away from the bidders with 0 feedback

the biggest things i hate about ebay are the recasters, ridiculous flippers, and ebay seller fees

Shipping with signature confirmation would be a good thing. At least they can never dispute that they didn't receive it...

Oh I will be doing that - as well as full insurance and taking lots of pics while I pack it up to prove that it was in good condition when I mailed it. I'll be fully covering my ass on this one.

I filed the unpaid item dispute thing. So we'll see how it goes.
Thing is, I now don't want them to pay me because I am afraid that even with insurance and tracking they can be jerks and say that I never sent them what I said I would.

Maybe I should just refund if they pay?

That's what I would do, then relist the item and block that buyer, it's the only way you will be sure you don't get screwed.

What's your user name on eSmack?

Jen I sold my Dr. Ex on eSmack and let me tell I almost had a heart attack until it got to the buyer and he was all right with it.

no joke :banghead

I feel like I'm going to have a heart attack just thinking about selling it. :lol

Mine went to Texas and it looked like that guy bought high end items all the time so I was relieved about that but I was counting the days and checking the tracking everyday until it arrived.

I was like com'on show SIGNATURE signed for, in the status on USPS.com :rotfl

For the past few years, just about all my posted items on eBay featured fixed prices and free shipping. I do my best to provide clear descriptions and my prices are generally around market value, perhaps a touch more. Payment terms are set up by eBay to be requested upon the BIN purchase. By doing this, I avoid the bargain hunters and usually, the obsessive collectors who go ape over the slightest scratch on the box. Thankfully, it's been a relative breeze with virtually no issues at all.

Sadly, as a buyer, I've been sold touched up statues, repaired pieces, items with missing pieces, items declared as new yet arrive with layers of dust... You name it. I've probably experienced it over the years. There's also nothing I hate more than having to pay the return shipping for an item which clearly did not match the description (like a missing piece, if you could believe that). I'd say this sort of thing happens about 15% of the time when I buy older product. Thankfully, this practically never happens with newer product as I'm generally dealing with sellers who want my return business.

Suggestion for sellers: Be honest. If it is dusty and has been poorly maintained, say so. If it has been displayed for years, don't describe it as new because it isn't. If there are chips, don't take out the marker to cover things up as you will get caught and likely blasted publically. Lastly, and most importantly, don't take your collectors for *******. Inspect the item thoroughly prior to posting the item as it is entirelly possibly that you may have missed something like a hole in the fabric of the PF. If so, don't pray the buyer misses it, be honest about it.

While it's unfortunate that sellers often sell items because they desperately need the money, their unfortunate personal issues don't entitle them to set buyers up for disappointment and stress. It's very easy to avoid these problems if you focus primarily on a fair transaction and not solely on a profitable one.

In reality, something is worth what the buyer is willing to pay, and there is no inequity.

Yeah car costs 140K to make but they sell it for 360K. A house cost 150K to make but sells for 1 million with property. Its what the consumers is willing to pay.
