what is it about this that makes people say the paint is sloppy up close? I haven't seen any sloppy paint jobs on this......

It's that the paint is applied so thick, that up close, it doesn't look like smooth layer of paint. It's definitely a piece where I have to take a step back, literally, to admire it's beauty.

Guess I don't really get the "thick" paint comment...it is not going to look like a smooth layer of paint when the shield is grooved to mimic the spun metal effect. If the paint were thick, you would loose that detail. I still think this is a great looking shield in hand. The only thing that is sloppy up close, is that you could nitpick the paint lines in between the rings of the shield where the colors meet is not razor sharp. I do still want a metal "hero" shield in my collection though.

Looks great from those pics. :dunno

Can someone elaborate on the stencil mod people have done to the star? No idea what that is. :lol

People are using lead pencils, even Gundam markers, to trace the lines of the star to make them more visible. Judging how it looks in hand when I get it, I think I'll try an acrylic wash on it.

My "pencil mod" is a "thing" now?!?!? I feel like I have contributed to collecting lore:lol

Like you said Y4NK33 PL4N3T, the EFX looks killer. I really don't understand how folks are willing to pay $500, $600, $1000 for a shield and not truly know what they are getting (or want). The EFX is not simply "the stunt shield". While born from the stunt shield, the fiberglass shield created by Studio Art and Technology that the EFX shares a lineage with is the screen used shield/look that replaced the aluminum shields from The First Avenger. This is how the shields looked in most of the Avengers, The Winter Solider, as seen below, and seemingly Age of Ultron.

If one likes the hyper shine/metallic First Avenger shield, that is totally cool. To be perfectly honest that shield with the prominently grooved star and subtle bullet strike battle damage is my absolute favourite. Having said that the aluminum customs by the likes of Chris Fields are the only ones that come close to achieving this look. To call or infer that the LICENSED EFX is in someway substandard or inferior in anyway is uninformed and unfair IMHO.

For those that are contemplating the Lager Toys version I personally would not want to put similar money into something that looks great from afar, but also like it will crumple like a pop can if it bumps something:

FTR my comments are not directed at you Y4NK33 PL4N3T but rather a commentary on some of the themes ingrained in this and the King Arts shield threads.

I agree about this being more of a hero shield now than a stunt model. In the winter solider when cap steps in the elevator with the shield on his back it looks exactly like the EFX shield.

I thought the real stunt shields used by the stunt double were made of rubber?

There are 3 versions, the "stunt" shield used in combat and "contact" choreography is made of a tough rubber so as not to injure us stunt perfomers, there's the "picture" shield that is used for close-ups and is heavier and made of metal I believe, and there's a version which I think eFx is based on, which is a lighter version of the "picture" shield that the actor runs around with and uses for "non-contact" stunts.

That makes sense for the scenes i thought the shield looked like the EFX version, you would not want have a heavy shield on your back all day or run around with one. I will have to watch it again and look for the metal version.

I believe even the close-up shots in Avengers and TWS used the fiberglass shields. The metal shields were only used in TFA. For all intents and purposes, the eFX shields are going to be the closest you can get to the current fiberglass hero shields. The fiberglass hero shields may have a little more detail than eFX but still going to be the same material and overall paint and finish. IIRC, none of the shots in Avengers required an up-close or even a clean look at the shield, so that could be why the details in the eFX shield are less pronounced than some of the shots in TWS.

some of you guys have very good points towards about this shield. I still can't get over that cheap wall hanger though. Nobody has come up with something better?

I fully expect somebody to come up with something once the rest of the people get theirs. I used "L" brackets for my Chris Fields shield before but I'm not sure how sturdy these eFX handles are just yet.

You can just buy 2-3 guitar hangers, which would hold it on the edges like the eFx ones instead of by the straps. Personally, I wouldn't use the straps to hold the shield up long term. I'd always be afraid of it falling. Just google "guitar wall mount" or "guitar wall hanger." There's s bunch of different kinds.

Dear dw316

I saw one up for preorder and snatched it up for you . Pm a time you are free and I'll cancel the order so you can finally get a damn shield

Best

Bones

I am planning on working on a wall mounted display frame this spring once the weather gets warmer.

Thanks, mate. I was actually able to order one thanks to another member here who helped me time the cancellation. I'm still undecided on it because of all the going-back-and-forth on the pros and cons of it, so I'm really hoping some KA-eFX comparison pictures come out before either charges so that I can really get a good look at the two side-by-side under the same light. I really appreciate it though, thanks! A lot of great, helpful members on here :hi5:
