I got my replacement dome the other day and it has more of a shine to it than the original...anybody else get there's and have that issue? Was the original too dull to begin with?

Yep. I noticed that right off too. The finish has grown on me though. I thought it was a tad to dull.

But, my replacement has some half moon indention on the peak where it sits above the nose, and some chunk of debris that got in the paint in the same spot. I'm on the fence over not liking the replacement more than the scuffed up original. If only that one hadn't been scuffed up in shipping. It's disappointing to wait so long for a replacement and not like it when it comes.

That sleeping "D" indentation is probably where the magnet is located on the inside -- mine has it too and so does the one in the rebelscum photo gallery section...I don't really mind it, it's really hard to spot...

I think it is the magnet, like the other poster said. I looked closely at my original helmet, and it shows the half circle too, just a lot fainter. I may have gotten one of the more visible ones, since this appears to be on all of them to some degree. I'm more bothered by the embeded debris in the paint than the moon shape at this point. You have to be looking for it to see it. But, the debris isn't so hidden.

You know, I think I prefer the glossier look myself. I checked out some Tantive IV shots, and a few other scenes today, and the newer domes are a spot on match. I know the dull had the more accurate feel, but the replacements strike me as better replica match. They even seem like they're more "one" with the mask in shade and gloss if you know what I mean, while still being authentic to the ANH shine levels.

Because they're farking incompetent. The defenders will say it's the Chinese manufactures fault but in reality, Apple could pull the same crap as all their products are made in China - but clearly their QC standards/manufacturer is much better.

eFX are simply being tight and contracting a cheap, poor quality, manufacturer to keep their profits high.

Holy crap!!! That's a monstrous difference. And for all the justification from Gino about the ANH helmet being more "satin" than "gloss" - this is simply unbelievable.

Actually, it is still what I would consider "satin". Here is a better pic...definitely not "glossy" and not too different from the original...
