So as we come to the end of this figures hype and sales cycle, is this a success or failure from Enterbay?
It not only seems to still be widely available, but Enterbay have packaged it up with an extra body as a set as well ....I'm guessing they wouldn't have done that if it was flying off the shelves.
There was also the fan rage after the production body was revealed though I don't know how that affected eventual sales.
Thoughts ?
Honestly for me the set had its share of disappointments as well as what I perceive to be important in the big picture. First my main gripes were:
1. The Packaging though very nice, isnt sturdy enough, a couple of heavy knocks can totally make the seams come apart. Which wasnt the the case with packaging like FoF which was a large set to and has the largest size in terms of packaging.
2. I have been collecting Enterbay Bruce Lee when I started getting in the hobby 2 years back. It was my priority line and for me Enterbay were kings, however with this release and one thing which stuck out sorely for me was the imbalance in the scale. The Height of this Bruce Lee was much more than their previous releases which were all to scale.
3. The dreaded rubber body - aesthetically great! Longevity and posability, not so. Some maybe happy to pose their Bruce Lee topless, and neutral. But for someone like me that just wouldnt be what I want out of my Bruce Lee that to representing The Game of Death, his showpiece for JKD. Also with the rubber body they have chosen, people with different climatic conditions do not know what itll end up like in the future
4. The QC errors. Enterbay rectified some with later bathes by giving Bruce Lee topless in the package. Protecting the headsculpt from paint rubs by placing coering plastic on them etc etc. But even now there are reports (some exaggerated, some genuine) The deal is people dont think its fair for QC errors to be so blatant on $300 + Shipping figures
Now the good things:
I think the industry needs innovation to really push things forward. EB's set was ambitious in all ways. Failures are pretty much common, but the idea remains for others to work and develop. I can guarantee that if there wasnt that huge hue and cry about the seamless rubber body prototype, HT wouldnt announce that 'new seamless Bruce Lee body in development' thing. The industry needs that spark to keep it from stagnating. Also the failures of this release can help Enterbay learn from their mistakes. Which was apparant from their help line, feedback mail etc etc. Thus making better releases and more successful ones
A fair point.
Much higher than Hot Toys figures.
Though actually cheaper than some other Enterbay Lee's.
How did the Fist of Fury set go on release sales wise? Does anyone know?
The FoF set took some time to sell as it was really expensive compared to standards then. With HT and other rising prices the $300 price tag though steep was not unreachable for people. During that time HT releases never touched $200, however FoF retailed at $320 and people werent hesitant to preorder. Rather most people like me had their first taste of Enterbay BL from FoF. However FoF sold well, as in during sales time they had developed the BL3.5 and they packaged that into the FoF set and called it the 'advanced Edition' etc etc with a new woden certificate and new box graphic etc etc. Deal is FoF sold out steadily, and had great reviews unanimously. GoD's biggest problems come from the fact is bad word of mouth publicity from lots of owners, coupled with the Enterbay Hate, and some fans expecting to Arnie Kim to show his magic with Hot Toys, thus they'd rather wait for a more 'reliable' alternative from Hot Toys...
