i just realized though,
that they dont include the costume he wears in the epic scene where he fights off 10 guys..

think they're coming out with alternate versions?

New Fist of Legend pics courtesy of TW.

These pics proved my point. The likeness is so much better because his eyes are more is intense.

Then he would need charcoal stains on his face and bloody fists

Then he would need charcoal stains on his face qnd booldy fist

Sorry if this is too far off the thread topic, but one thing bothered me about the close-up of his knuckles after that fight - it's his top two knuckles that are bloodied.

Yes some Wing Chun systems can differ in some respects from one another, but I was always taught to punch with the bottom three knuckles. Karate styles tend to punch with the top two knuckles. Any exponents here who can tell me otherwise?

Charcoal stains I can live with, but bloodied top knuckles would make me weep.

Pity 'bout that costume too, I would've loved to have had it included.

I'm not sure that really intense expression would've worked for IP Man, he never looks like that during the movie and probably wouldn't have fit his character as well. But those sculpts do seem fuller in the face, though it could just be the pics.

He doesn't need really intense expression true, but he should at least look a little more alert cause right now the Ip Man sculpt is looking a little sleepy.

i always thought his calm expression throughout the movie was perfect.

but that alternate costume....
I really want to pose him as if he's ready to open up a can of whoopa$$ with those rolled up sleeves...

Interesting. I guess it's because not many of us even have the Storm Warrior figures to make a judgment on them. They look pretty good in pics, maybe some things a little dodgy at extreme close-ups, but who knows how most of us will feel in person. And I'm sure it's a general consensus people have issues with their bodies too, hopefully their new body is an improvement. I think EB needs to do what HT is doing and make their prototype images closely resemble how the production figures are going to look. When EB shows a completely masterful, one-of-a-kind paint job for their protos, they have to expect some backlash.

And I agree, the pics they put it doesn't look 100% like Donnie, though it's close. I'm also anticipating what it looks like in-hand... but I also don't want to risk it being sold out.

Though, you say EB stuff doesn't really sell out? Hrmm, that's odd since figures like Jet Li and Bruce Lee are fetching high prices these days.

Hiya, yes of course none of us would expect a toy to look exactly like the person, but the fact that EB is always claiming that their headsculpt are so amazingly good and unbelievable (esp. in chinese websites and adverts) really pisses ppl off...not to mention YES the prototype is always great and the final product..not so much.

Regarding to the selling out issue, jet li was produced ages ago, if it's not sold out then I'd have to say their figure would really suck.....bruce lee? Yes because there's a huge fanbase, irregardless of how good the figure is. I am not saying their bruce lee offerings are bad in any measure, sure, they are good, but certainly i think other cos like HT may actually outdo them if given the chance.

I think it's just the lighting. The official pics have an obvious sepia tone filter applied. Enterbay's production Jack Bauer and Bruce Lee figures usually look about the same as the prototypes, and when they don't it's usually about 90%. It's completely unreasonable to expect that a mass produced factory paint job will match a prototype painted by Enterbay's best painter. Same goes for any other collectibles company -- HT, Sideshow, etc etc.

I own the enterbay Jack Bauer figure, and the sculpt and painting are awesome. That should be the quality they are looking for when producing figures to be competitive. And no i don't expect they match the prototype .... as it's expected which u do rightly pointed out. However, if you look at their recent storm warrior offerings (ESPECIALLY the main characters) then I think you will know what I mean. Also, the fact that they are always delaying their production and making ALOT of excuses is not the best way to do business.

The only EB figure I have is the FoF Bruce Lee and it's awesome... the head sculpt is fine IMO and the body is superb - the ratchety joints don't bother me like they bother some folks.

As for Donnie Chen's likeness, I'm not buying this figure because it's Donnie Chen from the movie, I'm buying it because it's Ip Man and what the original guy represents to me. There is another IP Man out there modeled on the real person, but it's pretty lame and over-priced.

So maybe I have a false confidence in the company because of the Bruce Lee I have that I'm perfectly satisfied with... I guess I'll wait and see.

Your reason is perfectly reasonable if you are buying the "spirit" of IP Man. But you know what, EB on their website, when they were visiting the madame tussauds (in HK) with a Donnie Yen IP MAN statute....they actually say sth to the extent that means " Well whether the likeness of the (madame tussauds) statute is great or not is very subjective" .... If course to us that's obvious that they want to say their figure's likeness is superior =.=""

The only thing that worries me is that they have it as 4th quarter release when it's mid-3rd quarter from EB. I hope they're just being cautious and the figure gets to them at least by the end of August.
Don't worry about the release date dominishin, I think this will come out definitely on the comic-con exhibition in HK. so really, don't bother pre-ordering it.

How could anyone look at the head sculpt and not think it's Donnie Yen? It might not be perfect, but it's damn close. So close. It's as close to Donnie as HT's Godfather looks like Marlon Brando or Aldo Raine looks like Brad Pitt. Or Enterbay's own Bruce looks like real Bruce.
no it's really not as close as HT's Godfather and Aldo Raine...but yes I am not going to argue that it's likeness is BAD because it's NOT. I just simply dislike how their company practises and making false promises etc... not to mention their product quality is not as promising is their initial promises (to be fair, it occurs only recently, i.e. the storm warriors incident) Also, don't you guys notice that EB is promising ALOT of licenses but they are NO WAY near fruition?!?!? Remember the prision break figures ? They were anounced around a YEAR AGO!!! and they KEEP buying licenses and promising sculpts while still NOT delivering figures which they ought to have done HALF A YEAR AGO!! (i.e. storm warriors)

BOTTOM LINE, I would just like to kindly advice you guys to look at the real product first and NOT pre-order this figure. Me myself is very interested in the IP MAN figure too but NO WAY I am going to pre-order the figure based on the prototype pics...simply because they differ too greatly.

I'm not sure that really intense expression would've worked for IP Man, he never looks like that during the movie and probably wouldn't have fit his character as well. But those sculpts do seem fuller in the face, though it could just be the pics.
Yes dominishin is right in this respect, however, i think the new EB donnie yen sculpt from another movie is phenomonal... THAT I can tell is Donnie Yen!!

You make some fair points, G'c. Of course we're anxious to see how this one turns out, and maybe you're right about choosing not to pre-order the figure from Enterbay. I don't agree with their payment up-front policy.

As for the new Fist of Legend sculpt, I don't think that merely alterig his browline to look more angry/determined and changing his hair makes the sculpt any more accurate...it's the same sculpt with more furrowed eyebrows. The inaccuracies of the sculpt aren't related to that. It's not like Donnie always furrows his eye brows.

breakersrevenge of OneSixthBruce fame is going to GIVE me one of these for nothing, nada, zip!! one of my most anticipated characters and i get it for free? sometimes things can't get any better if you tried. that guy is just toooooo awesome :rock

We need more kung-fu figures...maybe that 36th Chamber Gordon Liu which was shelved. Or Snake in the Eagles Shadow 3 some of Jackie, his master Old dirty, and of course Hwang freaking Jang Lee.

While I agree there are some things about the sculpt that could be improved (his lips stand out most to me), I can still glance at this figure and say "Hey! That's Donnie Yen!" It's the same boat as Hot Toys Wolverine figure... It's not EXACTLY Hugh Jackman, but the essence is there enough that you can tell who it is supposed to be. I agree that for the prices these things go it should be a little more spot on, but considering the advances we've made in just a few short years, I am quite happy with the sculpts. I've clamored for more chinese movie charcters for years and now I have the chance to get some and that makes this gwailo quite happy...
