They should still call it Book of the Dead - original Evil Dead working title; that would be a nice way to distinguish it from the Bruce Campbell movies

but then stupid people would not know it is a remake. the world is full of retarded people, retarded people with money.

okay this is something someone else said,
that to me shows why this movie is going to suck

I am sorry but I find the first one more scary. Even if it looks cheesy and badly done, the second pic just looks stupid

In fact the second pic looks More cheesy than the first,

:lecture C'mon now.
You're not basing your opinion of the entire movie just on that alone. :lol

it just has that feel, it feels like it is taking itself too seriously and everything in the movie is stylish and everyone is good looking. even the possessed girls look still good. it has all these red flags

Let's be honest though. Given the deadites are the whole premise of the story, if they can't sell you on them, they're already off to a bad start. And in this rarest of occasions, I'm inclined to agree with Peter Pan there. The first looks like a ****ed-up, possessed person. The second looks like an EMO girl with contacts who's been playing in her Hershey squirts...

One promo picture and suddenly the Deadites arent selling you? Really? I mean come on!

The remake/new film promo picture looks more gritty and realistic in make up. Yeah we know how things have improved, just look at Romero's Dawn of the Dead zombies; bit of pale blue/grey facepaint and yellow eyes and rubber necks for biting :p Theyre awsome because it was the 70's/80's and it was great back then, might seem cheesy now but thats how advancements have come in and you still respect and love those films for pushing the boundries of their decade(s)

Youve gotta walk into the cinema disregarding the originals. This is for a new, modern audience. I hope they keep the suspense and intrigue along with the offscreen horror as opposed to what most films do these days and just put everything on screen and leave nothing to the imagination. But its what we have to do.

i dont mind the look of the film, seems a more realistic/modern tone to it, less bright colours of the cheese and more neautral tones, darker.

Psh I think both look scary and probaly scare the **** outta me if I saw them in person. Who's playing ash?

I'm sorry, but I don't subscribe to the halfwit concept of rehashing old **** instantly = good. :cuckoo:

One of the main problems here is that this really does not look new or fresh to me at all. They seem to be making a contemporary torture-porn horror movie with the general story and environment from the old Evil Dead movies. That is the worst kind of stale because it seems so derivative and uncreative. The original films still feel fresh to me, because they were so different and well executed for what they are (I get that some people don't understand them, and that's fine--not everyone can have good taste in movies).

These kinds of things seem inevitable, because there is cash to be made based off of familiarity and nostalgia. And they don't really affect me that much since the originals are still what they are with the exception possibly of Star Wars and Lucas's revisionism. But they are unnecessary and when they seem to disregard the spirit of the source material, then it comes off to me as purely a cash grab more than a nice homage, and that seems a bit disrespectful. Having said that, Raimi is involved with this, so the issue of respect seems to be a moot point. At least this isn't a Watchmen 2.0 scenario.

But to each their own. Obviously some are interested in this, and I hope you all enjoy it.

Remakes of 80's horror flicks never seem to work. It is impossible to capture the b-movie, campy feel of them. But some remakes have actually been good if you don't compare them to the original and look at them as their own movie. Dawn of the Dead is one of my favorite horror movies of all time. But the remake is as well. I just look it as it's own identity instead of comparing.

This looks good in it's own right. Just not as a remake. It would be impossible to recapture the feel of the original Evil Dead or Dead by Dawn.

While I don't like the new Dawn of the Dead personally (just didn't work for me), I can see how others like it, and appreciate the film on that level. I actually did enjoy the Friday the 13th remake, because it was just brutal as ****, which is what Jason movies are all about, but with some modern horror film sensibilities.

Yes, it is hard to separate our feelings regarding the older movies from the remakes, but the makers of the updates are inviting those comparisons. In fact, they hope to capitalize on that, which is the whole point.

I think this looks quite good. It looks as if it could have ended up much worse and I'm glad they're going full on horror movie with this as apposed to giving it a comedic edge. The original will always be there.

this is the problem I see this movie having.

I guess I have to ask...then why call it Evil Dead? (Rhetorical, I know exactly why "name brand recognition = money") If you're going to take away what made it special in the first place, why not do your own story similar to it?
