Great pics! May I ask what camera and setup you're using?

Hey Dave,

Yes, it's just a Canon G10. It's a fixed lens, point and shoot style camera. Gives you DSLR type image quality on a budget.

As for the setup, I bought a large (2 yards I think) piece of black fabric, and just drape it vertically down, then across a small TV stand I use to sit the pieces on. The trick to good pictures is to buy a cheap, $30 or less, tripod, and learn how to use the timer on your camera. Set it for about a 3 second delay. That will keep the camera shake (even on a tripod) down to a minimum.

Oh, and most important...never ever use a flash.

I got mine and it is a beauty. Great face, great paint. The fabrics are very good. I think this is going to go down in Sideshow history as one of the finest PFs ever. And it is a very worthy first SS Disney statue.

How do you get the lighting right though? I live in a dark apartment and usually have to turn on every light I can to get sufficient lighting on my pics.

Well, this is where the tripod and timer come in. Most people take photos using the flash, because otherwise the shots come out blurry because they aren't holding the camera still. When the camera is stationary, and you use the timer, the camera has time to adjust to the low light conditions. It leaves the shutter open longer to gather what light there is, and self-adjusts to give you a good photo (assuming you have your camera set to auto).

The real trick is to use the 'exposure' setting on the camera. You may need to be in some other mode other than 'auto' to actually be able to use it. I usually choose 'aperture priority' mode (Av), and then adjust the exposure setting to show me what the picture is going to look like (on the LCD). Believe me, there is barely any light at all actually landing on the statue in these photos. If you look closely at the first two photos, you'll notice there are no reflections of lights on the statue.

Thanks ComputerFly, those are some nice tips. Do you use any special lighting or a spotlight?

No special lighting. I used to just open the window blinds and use natural daylight. Then I got tired of destroying the living room everytime I wanted take some photos, so I set up in our unfinished basement. I have a couple of those 'shop light' fixtures, using 'daylight' bulbs.

Those bulbs bring up another setting you need to be familiar with on your camera: White Balance. Depending on your situation, you need to try changing the white balance setting to match your lighting. If you're using auto, the camera does it for you, but auto may not be accurate, depending on your situation. I use fluorescent bulbs so I change mine. Here's a quick, easy to understand, reference for using white balance.

I just got in the piece I ordered for my gf-- WOW! THIS THING IS BEAUTIFUL!

I'm shocked at how great it looks in person. I was expecting a quality piece, but man is this thing great!

Agreed.

I pretty much got it for my wife too, and it really is eye catching. One of the nicest PF's to date easy. I really hope they tone down the greenish color on maleficent because they would look great side by side if she comes out looking good too.

This piece caused me to just put in a WL order for Malificent. I still really don't like her color, but I hope it will be fixed.

I'm thinking of getting on the WL too for the Maleficent too.

Just received my evil queen and I'm just blown away by it.
It's perfect with no paint flaws or any loose stitching.
Two things I noticed was the box is very small although the statue arrived perfectly I would be a bit worried the next time and the amount and quality of the material really made the statue stand out.

No pics yet, but Totally Awesome, this is what a PF should be.

It's also a perfect example of what you see is what you get. The production statue matches the initial pre-order images... while being even better in person.

Yeah, I think this is a great piece. I can this line being HUGE down the road. This piece will be highly sought after IMO.

Well, my Evil Queen is on the road back to Sideshow.:( Here's hoping for the next one to be flawless.

Good thing the Punisher Comiquette arrives tomorrow to keep my company till the Queen gets back.:D

What was wrong with your Queen?

So far I've only heard of one, and it's not like its something that just sticks out asking to be chipped/broken. As such seems to be more bad luck at this stage then a common problem. With luck it will stay that way.

Here's a few that i snapped yesterday --

Love this PF and the exclusive piece is pretty cool in its own right.

Hopefully the chipped eyelash won't be a common problem.

It seems to be just me. I may have had something to do with the packing. Don't know about everybody else but the top half of the styrofoam packaging was molded backwards. In other words the indentation that the statue is suppose go into and cause a snug fit was opposite of what it was suppose to be. Maybe this caused the statue to rub during shipping or intial packaging.:huh
