Ewan McGregor regrets 'Star Wars'

Ewan McGregor / 'Big Fish'
Ewan McGregor has admitted that he regrets appearing in the Star Wars movies.

The actor, who played Obi-Wan Kenobi in The Phantom Menace, Attack Of The Clones and Revenge Of The Sith, spoke about his best and worst films during a visit to a Scottish hospice.

Hamish Glasgow, whose three-year-old son Cameron suffers from rare disease Hoyeraal Hreidarsson, told The Sun: "Ewan was really down to earth. He was great with Cameron. He was really relaxed and you could tell he's a really good dad.

"He said the favourite movie he'd done was Trainspotting and the one he liked least was Star Wars."

It funny to me when celebrities so violently dislike films that make them a household name....

It's funny... I mean, I remember when he was first cast... He was giddy as Hell, smiling in every behind the scenes shot you saw, just happy as Hell to be there. But I guess working with GL for a while and those bad reviews... can do enough to your inner fanboy to kill your enthusiasm. :lol

I don't think it was the movies as much as the method GL uses. I guess he thought the greenscreen was real torture.

Have any of you tried to watch Phantom Menace lately? I'd want to disassociate myself from that stinking pile of Bantha poodoo as well if I were Ewan. I'm sure it was even more embarrassing for him to watch than it was for me.

That's what I heard as well... The Green screen and the way he directs actors really got to him. And Dave, I totally agree as well.... I can only imagine how he must have felt..:lol

Ya, that's the impression I got from other interviews; not that GL or the cast or anything of that sort got to him, but more the acting with things that weren't really there. I genuinely think he loved the lightsaber dueling and working with Hayden and Natalie and all that, just look at how much he enjoyed prepping with Hayden for the ROTS duel. I think a lot of actors and actresses that got used to working pre Green/Blue screen days have trouble when they have to work primarily in that environment.

If it's true I would guess it's because he felt like a hired gun instead of allowed to chew the scenery and enjoy lead actor status while filming.

But you can't believe everything you read in The Sun.

Yeah, I can't watch Phantom Menace anymore because it sucks so bad.. guess I can't fault him for hating that one.

Sadly, the biggest difference between the OT and the PT..... Really takes away the feeling that you had in the original films. And all the greenscreen is really to blame, or at least GL not knowing how to direct actors who are working in that green hell. So you never get that comfortable feeling that the actors are having a good time and delving into their characters. Can't chew the scenery if there is no scenery to chew. :lol

The problems is that in the OT George Lucas was not an ICON yet. If Harrison didn't like a certain line, he could change it, and had the balls to change it.

With the PT it was: How would you like that George? I can get it for you right away george.. YES YES YES YES-A 1,000 TIMES YES! George.

Exactly! Half the interviews with Hayden and Natalie, they talk about walking into the Star Wars phenomenon and how it was George's big thing; they felt walking into the movies that they had to do exactly what George wanted and I don't think they ever felt like they could be creative with their own ideas.

Despite what acting flops came out of the OT, Ewan McGreggor and Ian McDiarmid gave shining performances.

Episode I is better when you know what's coming in II and III. Alas back when it was released we didn't have that perspective (and any first instalment should presume no knowledge of the following parts).

I've gone up, down and back up again with TPM. I think if you just take it for what it is (and ignore some of the annoying stuff) its a solid and fun movie. I'm still not a fan of AOTC, but I probably need to watch it again since its been awhile.

My son insisted we watch it the other night. I still feel the same... Has some cool scenes but most is bleh.

I don't have any complaints about Ewan from the PT, but just because he says it's his least favorite movie that he worked in doesn't mean he hates it. I haven't seen him in any movies that are bad so it's not horrible.

I can't say I blame him if he really said that. The guy is a great actor but if I only knew him from Star Wars well....maybe ok thats about it.
