I may be wrong, but didn't nanjin say essentially (not his words) not every Trek fan with be a fan of every Trek figure for sale. He said its like having 20 licenses. For instance, if you love TOS you may not love DS9, so your break will come when DS9 goes up for sale. At least, that's how I took it.
Like for me with Star Wars, I get a break when HT releases anything Sequel trilogy, Clone Wars or cartoon related or almost anything PT. I'm really only interested in OT, RO or Mando.
If you have a broad palate and love all things Trek, then you are in trouble.
Exactly. I'm not a huge Trekkie, so the only ones I'd be interested in would be Kirk & Spock. Khan if we're talking villains. And since I'm a heretic, I'd buy the Kelvin versions too (plus Bones because of Urban). Maybe something from TNG too, notably Picard. Maybe Riker and Data. And Q. But that's it.
I think it's important to put specific limits to everything, otherwise you end up going overboard. With Star Wars, that I prefer to Trek character-wise, there are more characters I'd be in for, but even then I try to limit myself to specific ones, notably the Force Wielders. With Marvel/DC I stick only to my favourites, and most of them aren't MCU characters yet, so I'm still in the clear. There are few lines that'd tempt me to go all in, and thus far there's no 1/6th representation of them. If I didn't have those limits, I'd be buying a new figure every week, and that's a recipe for disaster. Exceptions exist, yes, when something comes out completely out of left-field. But you have to adhere to some rules. If you love 10 things, you have to choose a bit of everything. If you collect only Batman then sure, go ahead and buy it all. But as it stands I can't realistically buy TDK BaleBat, BBBaleBat, ArkhamBat, three Batfflecks, BatKeaton and so on. Much as I might like someone/something, I'm sticking to one figure per character, unless it's one of my Top 10 or something and a particular costume/look is close to my heart. One avenue I've closed off entirely for example are the X-Men. I may have liked one or two characters and stories back in the day, but I don't care now, and if I start with one exception I'll get hit by the completionist bug. But if the F4 are well-casted, I'd see myself wanting to get them all. Green Lantern would be both a problem and a blessing. You get my point.
So, for the time being, I can breathe with this selection and I don't mind waiting for the more high profiles characters down the line. This hobby needs patience.
