It took about 10-15 mninutes. Of course there were 100 and nobody knew it was coming like they knew this one and the DOTF bronze are. The newsletter before the dooku bronze just said "There will be a special surpirse for our readers with fast hands" or something like that.

Yes, SS gave everyone the heads up on the Yoda vs Dooku prior to the newsletter. They also gave us advanced warning [ 2-3 weeks ago] about this one and the yet to be released bronze DOTF dio.

Thats right they did give a heads up before it went up for sale but they didn't say there would only be 100.

True, they didn't...nor did they mention anything about an ES of 50 on this one, but I think we all knew the numbers would be significantly lower than the regular edition ES.
Here's how I look at it...seems like every time a really popular item is released we get nailed with a high ES, so you'll never hear me complain when they come out with these types of excl.'s with super low ES's. :D

One point I want to make. About how the original Weta line prices didn't shoot right up on the Balrog or Stone Trolls or WiKi right away....

Then again there is only one version of those, and not variants, they appreciated over time...

If someone didn't get the Faux Bronze version, they can get the painted version of the Eagle VS Fell Beast which (in my opinion) looks better.

So, it's not like its the only version and there are 50 of them. If that was the case, then I hate to think what this thread would be like right now.

;)

Anyone who FLIPS this piece is a winner in my book!!

All you whiners can suck it!

What, are you on your period?

When I read this I automatically think of the movie The Departed.

Kinda dumb point. The balrog,St,and CT didn't shoot up because Lotr wasn't out yet, and the Weta pieces really didn't take off till TtT trailer came out. As for the new LotR lines out there...no support for these pieces now. Again, this dio line would have taken off at the start. So far you can get them all cheaper on the secondary market. Don't get me wrong, they're all very nicely sculpted and what not. But the demand that once was, is not there any more.

Well there's no need to call my point dumb.

Maybe you didn't understand it.

Point is those pieces will sustain there value. There is only ONE version of the original Cave Troll. If they made a very similiar version, the price would come down.

Look at the original Balrog before the baby Balrog was made it was going for over 5,000$$$

now it's in the 2,000$ - 3,000$ range.

Point is there is another version of the Eagle VS Fell Beast. The painted one, where collectors will be able to get it. It's not like that's the only version and there are only 50, then this piece would command more money then the original Balrog or Cave Troll.

Get my point yet?

I would have to disagree on this specific point with you. The Baby'Rog didn't seem to do much of a dent to the original's value, although I would have agreed in theory back then that that would happen.

If Danbury Mint were to release an Orthanc Tower, you better believe I would try to sell my SSW Orthanc and cash in and get the Danbury one... :) (if DM Orthanc were same size or larger)

First off, the most I have EVER seen the Balrog of Moria go for was $4000 TWICE and those were APs. Never for $5000. I have been following SSW closely since April 2004. (4 more pieces to go and I have the entire SSW offerings, except for the lithos and Gandalf Bronze statue).

The Balrog is now hovering around $1800-$2500 for the numbered edition, the AP could still command $3000-$4000. The drop in price from $3000 for a numbered Balrog to what it is now would have more to do with the fact that EVERYTHING SSW is a little depressed from the prices it fetched in the heyday of the movies.

I could of sworn it went over $5,000 a few times, when the SS/W line was at the pinnacle of its collecting days.

It's all good.

I wrote SS about the early newsletter, they said for now its going to be like a "musical newsletter", their going to play music on the site, and when the music stops, the newsletter will go up, kinda of cool.

I actually think the Original Rog did hit 5k at least once. I watched it quite closely myself.

I do disagree the Baby Rog has had much of an effect on the price Daddy commands. The price drop is more due to LOTR just not being as big a seller with no movie out. Most of the people collecting LOTR now are die hards or flippers.

Sweet jesus are SS losing the frigging plot altogether?? Not only do we in EU have to be on the ball at all hours of the morning for the newsletter now we have to endure some twit banging out some awful, probably Midi music and wait for it to stop to shop?? (whispers, "I Don't Think So!") :monkey2

Agent23: sorry for calling it dumb, just a bit inaccurate.

But for all those looking for one. I don't think this bronze dio will go for all that much, say (random number) $100 more. With ebay and paypal fees, and shipping costs from SS, scalpers/flippers are only looking at a rough $60-50 profit.

:lol:lol:rotfl:lol:lol Classic! Could not have put it better myself!

I for one do NOT want to hear muzak at 3am while waiting for the newsletter!

Just as a point of reference, how much did the Diane Auction for this Bronze go for? That should help gauge the demand for this for die-hard LOTR fans -- more importantly, how many bidders were there?
