I totally agree.. Fergie is the one who actually started this madness.. he made sure that when he goes out, United is in tatters. He always played favorites. His ill treatment of certain lads (I don't wanna name them) and frequent selection of lesser players (his boys) is no secret. Paul Pogba, everybody knew he was a great talent, yet thanks to Fergie, United let him go.
I was a little boy and I vaguely remember United winning their last Treble. That was a formidable team. However, as you said, him and the owners did nothing to build up a strong United squad. They needed a couple good youth players to replace the back 4. However, that was totally ignored. I was appalled to see United's squad last season. Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Carrick, Fletcher all have been great stalwarts.. but they're past their prime and should have been limited to the Subs bench with the chance to provide the occasional heroics. The funds after the sale of Ronaldo (biggest transfer back them) were never utilized. On the other hand, Chelsea and Man city, funded by their rich Russian and Arab owners kept investing and hence, are reaping the fruits. I agree United has never been a big spending team, they usually look for "great" bargains or invest in the youth and make them "Great". Still, they should have had one eye on the future.
But yes, things are looking up. The owners have loosened the purse, which is great news. I don't believe Herrera and Shaw are worth 60 Mil. I was shocked to be honest. But I see what they're going for, Shaw for Evra and Herrera for the midfield. Which is alright in my book.
Moreover, Vidal may be joining United and a couple other good transfers rumors. I'm expecting good things from Van Gaal.
Back to the cup, I hope Brazil gets the better of Germany in the next and goes down in the finals. Dang I'm probably asking for too much.
