First new Hot Toys Johnny Depp teaser... and its Sweeney Todd

It seems this announcement has split everyone right down the middle, you either love it or hate it, bit like Marmite I still like the idea of this, especially if he comes with the chair.

HT do a quirky off the wall figure that many collectors want! Don't be daft

Raoul seems like a long-shot to me. The only reason I would consider him possible at all is that HT is now focusing on Depp characters. Not sure how you would define "many collectors," but I can't imagine, say, 5,000 or 10,000 figures of Raoul selling (guesstimate of a typical HT production run). Great film, nice cult following, but he's not gonna look as interesting on the shelf as Depp in one of his Burton roles. And as we know, that is a big factor in HT's decision-making process. Folks who don't even like Sweeney Todd will buy the figure because he is gonna look awesome next to their other HT figures.

I don't think that's a fair judgment though. Us here aren't the only collector's in the world. You have to add in the die-hard Johnny Depp fans who only buy/collect things Depp related who will most likely not be apart of this forum. Then there's those collector's who just aren't a part of forums like these.

They just announced it THIS morning .......why do people have to be so negative about new products being released just because its not the type of stuff they would want? I mean I cant stand Superman but I wouldnt be in the Superman threads crapping on announcements of new figures, I would just keep it moving.

We need more post like this, where fellow collector's are happy for other collector's even if they have no interest in the item. I could _____ and moan about the 3 BL figures, 2 of which are just regular Bruce Lee, and HT wasting time and yada, yada, yada but I really don't care b/c I'm not interested. I'm happy that BL fans are getting more of what they want.

Well there's a reason I said Die-hard fan. I see it in the same instance of HT Ezio where a friend of mine was saying that when he went to Comic-Con all the fanboys of the game where drooling over it. If gamers and not collectors where all over it even with it's higher price than a typical game yet still bought it that same idea pertains to this Depp line. If you're a Depp fan and buy everything Depp related I don't see why these would be excluded from your collection? I'm a major Depp fan, have a great majority of his movies and will be buying all of these if I can get them all.

Well you could have crapped on the figure on the day it was announced, but your comment would have been lost in the hundreds of comments posted on that day, unlike this announcement that can barely muster up one hundred comments on day one , which I still hope is some lame joke. Anyway at least you have a chair to look at, us Superman fans have nothing

Then you can't say what you think about the figure because you don't like the movie, if you don't like it doesn't mean it's a ____ figure and it won't sell. If i were to bet, i say it would sell like crazy.

ps: what do you want people to talk about if we can't even see the sculpt? About a chair?

If this figure is for real I total agree. Depp had a good look in the movie, but I hate most live action musicals, especially with awful songs like the ones in this film.

Can't even begin to guess how many times I have listened to the soundtrack. Even before I saw the movie, I had nearly all the songs memorized.

It's not really fair to compare this to a giant icon like Superman. I want them both, but Superman is waaaay bigger.

Its Depp. And whether people like it or not or if they want to believe it or not, Depp sells. Depp has a fan base. And Depp brings in the cash. So yes, this will sell. Anything with Depps face on it will sell. Like it or not, thats fact.

Agreed! We've seen many Jack Sparrow figs. What if after POTC: OST, Disney for some reason decides on another movie? We may get even another Jack Slarrow figure

But in the case of Sweeney Todd, we have medi's version and then this HT version unless for some odd reason Enterbay decides they want to join in, HT version will most likely be the last and best of the 1:6 Sweeney Todd figures

I doubt the chair is meant to say they are making a 1/6 barber chair. Just a way to tease without showing the figure.

Disney has already said that this forth Pirates will be a begining of another trilogy. So we are getting at least two more films after this one.

Whether or not HT makes another is to be seen. Personally, after a DX, what else can you do? Another DX? The DX series is still in its infancy to start making duplicate characters.
