The PSP Go thread

The first images of the PSP Go has "leaked" online by various places, just a couple days before E3. If this wasn't intentional, someone at Sony is getting fired :lol

For those who don't know much about the PSP platform, the PSP Go is the 4th generation version of the handheld. There was the first one, then the PSP Slim 2000 (which was thinner and lighter), and then the PSP 3000 (which had the same features and the Slim but featured a better, brighter screen).

Price announced at E3: $250

Not much is known about the system yet, but it'll have 16 gigs of onboard memory and a 3.8 inch screen. It is also 43% lighter than the PSP slim and will not feature a UMD Drive. It will not replace the current PSP.

I already own a PSP slim but I'll be buying this one because I like the slide-up design.

So is this PSP 2, or PSP 1.3 or whatever the count is?

No, it's not meant to replace the current PSP system. A good comparison would be the DSi or DS Lite compared to the original DS. The PSP Go is an update that will include new features more suited to online game purchases and digital distribution. It's also smaller and has no umd drive.

.

That's possible, but people love buying updated versions of hardware, just look at the DS and PS2.

They love buying updated versions of things that already sell. PSP isn't selling. So an updated version of it isn't going to do much better sales wise imo. :(

Size comparison with other handhelds:

The screen on the PSP Go is half an inch shorter in length than the original PSP. that is 3.8" versus the previous 4.3". I don't like that.

i was hoping for the PSP 2... dual analog...

the PSP GO is simply stretching the last bit of life out of the system.

So basically it's just a smaller PSP with built in memory and no UMD? I think I'll just stick with a regular PSP.

Yep. It's built for digital distribution only, but we should learn more when E3 starts on Monday. For owners of UMDs, I'm sure Sony will figure out a way for us to transfer those games onto the on-board memory somehow.

I'll probably end up buying it, because I've done so for the DS and DS Lite.

If they have a way I can transfer UMD games to digital and transfer my saves I may get one. Otherwise:

Why is it a stinker? In terms of changesand design alterations it's more dramatic and worthwhile than the DSi, which is barely different compared to the DS Lite.

I for one like the slide-up design. We haven't had one for a handheld gaming unit yet. It's nice to see.

If you enjoy digital distribution then bully for you as your psp wet dreams have been answered.

It's all about the library of titles and considering the fact that they have opted out on the UMD drive they get to start over from zero. If your lucky Sony will take the cue from Nintendo and begin offering downloads of all their classic (PSX/PS2) titles. That's where the true beauty of the DSi lies, onboard memory and dlc. It will give nearly instant access to a library of hundreds of games you may already own but feel impelled to purchase again.

^ You're right, the true "beauty" of DSi lies in it's methods of getting you to shell out money again for titles you already have, especially now considering the handheld lacks a GBA port. Thankfully Nintendo has prepared for you to rebuy your collection of games again. Oh, and the DSi only has 256MB of onboard memory, you'll have to shell out for a larger SD card.

I've seen the DSiWare library, most of it consists of crap I wouldn't spend a dollar on. There is the library of full DS games, and I will admit it is growing.

Now, when it comes to downloadable games on consoles, Sony leads in quality and creativity. You won't find games like Flower, Echochrome or PixelJunk Eden on XBLA or WiiWare. If they can replicate that for PSP Go it can be successful. Sony already has a PSP online store to buy PSP-ready PSX titles, but now with the PSP Go, you'll have it ready from the XMB menu.

And did I read your post incorrectly or did you call me a bully?

I'm more than happy with my generation 1 PSP, so I won't be upgrading in the future.

On a side note, what ever happened to the dual analog controls that Sony promised?
