Are all these "upgrades" really worth it? Sometime I just don't get these companies sometimes. I lost hope with Nintendo when I purchased a Game Boy Color. Literally, a month later they announced the Game Boy Advance for release. Winded up buying that. By the time I got the Game Boy Advance, they decided to come out with the Game Boy Advance SP with a backlit screen. After that, I said screw it...picked up a PSP and haven't looked back. I hear good stuff with the DS, but I'll be damned if I get sucked in again like I did before.

I said it before and I'll say it again, I'm happy with my original PSP. From what I've been reading, the PSP Go seems like a worthwhile investment for newcomers. But for current PSP owners, the new system doesn't seem to offer anything that will justify dishing out another $200. And while the PSP Go will feature downloadable content, Sony will still sell their UMD games at retail stores. As such, old-generation PSP owners will not be losing out on any of the new games.

Until the PSP 2 comes along, I'm keeping my money in my wallet.

Kaz Hirai - "We have two names for this device. The worst kept secret of E3...and the PSP Go" :lol

Reveals "Media Go", an app store that can be accessed from the PSP's menu.

Price announced: $249.99

Looks really cool and I'll most likely be getting one since I don't already have a PSP, but $250 does seem a little pricey. Should have added in touch screen at that price point.

Guess it is useless then--really there's no point in this existing.

Before the price announcement I would have disagreed with you, but $250 just seems so counter-productive to Sony's efforts of selling hardware this holiday season.

Sony, do you want BOTH your PSP platform and PS3 to struggle with sales? What are you thinking?

My main thing is that it's not offering any new features that make it better than the old one, it's just a slightly different console and it's more expensive. Waste of time

It looks kind of nifty, but honestly I'm a little leery of the d-pad and button design. It would be interesting to see how responsive they feel. They kind of look like cell phone buttons which personally isn't my idea of a gaming machine... though I know a lot of folks use them. I'd sooner use something that is completely or primarily designed for gaming.

But honestly the biggest issue for me is that it actually doesn't have a UMD drive. I've got a crap load of UMD based games both domestic and even more import. I don't know what level of effort would be involved with registering and buying the import games via digital download.

But I could probably stand to trade up my original PSP for one of the newer PSP 3000 designs. :lol

Kotaku's hands-on impressions from E3:

Sony introduced the PSP Go at today's E3 media briefing, a smaller, pricier alternative to the already available PSP-3000. That new model was available on the E3 show floor, attached to new PSP games. We got to go hands on when the show opened.

The PSP Go is much more narrow than the original, a tiny little device that features the same visual quality, just with a half-inch smaller LCD screen. That smaller hardware footprint means a much tighter control layout, with the analog control nub moved to the right of the digital directional pad, making for a wider reach with the left thumb.

That move to the right will take some getting used to. It doesn't feel natural, but doesn't necessarily feel bad. It's just that my thumb reflexively went for the d-pad. That's no good for a game like SOCOM Navy SEALs Fire Team Bravo 3, which uses the analog for player control.

On the more positive side, the PSP Go's d-pad and face buttons—square, circle, triangle, X—feel more precise, more "digital" than the squishier controls on the original PSP. They feel really tight.

The new shoulder buttons, which now reside behind the slide up screen feel fine. Not particularly good, not particularly bad. Just something that's going to take a little time adjusting to, if you're used to the beefier L and R buttons on the current PSP.

Weight-wise, we really couldn't tell how much lighter the PSP Go was. It was locked down and attached to a bulkier weight, so no feel impressions there. Same for the slider. That was locked down too.

The relocation of the audio and display buttons from the face of the PSP to the top of the device on the PSP Go makes sense. I had expected those two buttons to be replaced with a software adjustment solution, but it appears the PSP OS is identical to what's already available. Tapping the PS (or Home) button launches you into a familiar interface.

The PSP Go feels solid. Tiny, but solid. Those hands are mine, and they're a bit on the wee side. Adjust the size of your hands accordingly.

You'll eventually grow enough to hold it, kid. Enjoy being on my ignore list.

I think the PSP Go seems like a pretty cool device. But, I'm one of those people who actually likes to purchase physical games, in order to display (and collect) the cover art. Downloading games on the fly doesn't seem like a bad idea though!

:lol I know it sounds rude, but check the E3 thread and his comments and you'd understand.

The system is too expensive even when you take into consideration the digital download and bluetooth features.
