Wow, dude, that blows. Glad it died so that you could pull over safely. I hope it won't cost too much to repair. As for being called in, couldn't you say no? Or do you get OT, so didn't want to say no?

That's somewhat good news, but also somewhat troubling. You should test it for a few days (turning it off and on) to make sure it doesn't have an electrical problem.
